Advertised Job Summary:The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a research program in neurobiology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program in Molecular or Cellular Neurobiology relevant to neural development and/or disease focused on Cell-Cell Interactions, be responsible for teaching courses relevant to his/her area of expertise, as well as mentoring research training for undergraduate and graduate students. We are especially interested in applicants focusing on how interactions between axons and other cell types contribute axonal biology in nervous system development, disease, or response to injury. This position will interact with research groups in Biological Sciences and the SmartState Center for Childhood Neurotherapeutics that include neurobiologists focusing on mechanisms of axon development and neural repair. UofSC has a highly interactive neuroscience research community that encourages and precipitates collaborations.
Required Education and Experience:Ph.D. in biology or related discipline or M.D. and post-doctoral training in a relevant area of neuroscience or biomedical sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
