Description:This position provides safety and security for the GGC campus. Ensures law, order and peace are upheld on the campus for all college students, employees and visitors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • This positions duties include limited protective work in guarding buildings, grounds and facilities against loss or damage; enforcing campus traffic and parking regulations.
  • Assignment to day, evening and morning shifts possible, as well as odd hours for special events or activities on campus (i.e, may require: 24 hour on call assignment, third shift which is overnight, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10 hour, 12 hour, and rotating shifts).
  • Duties are frequently performed outdoors in all weather conditions and under general supervision and in accordance with established routine and is checked by superior officers through personal inspections, review of reports, and discussions with employees.
  • Workers may be subjected to odors, dusts, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
  • Patrol campus on foot, in police vehicles or on bicycle in order to deter crime, direct traffic, provide service or assistance to employees, students or visitors to campus, and to enforce traffic and parking regulations.
  • Investigate disturbances, suspicious circumstances, traffic accidents or violation of college regulations when prompted by phone calls, alarms, citizens' requests, or officers' observations.
  • Talk with individuals to determine causes of disturbances or accidents.
  • Take reports and accurately complete forms to record incident.
  • Direct traffic at campus events using barricades, traffic cones, traffic vests, and flashlights.
  • Assist local police department when called in order to enforce state laws and city ordinances.
  • Attend and testify in municipal, circuit, district, federal, and juvenile court before grand jury; review case file and prepare for testimony.
  • Complete police documents such as daily activity reports, vehicle impound records, traffic accident reports, warning reports, permission to search, advice of rights, incident offense reports, arrest reports, bond forms, complaint forms, fingerprint cards and warrants of arrest in order to record activity on shift, complete arrest, investigate traffic accidents or other incidents of law violations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must be Georgia POST Certified with Basic Law Enforcement Mandate and be in "Good Standing" or able to be POST certified within one year of hire.
  • NOTE: Passing or qualifying scores are adopted from the requirements set by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.
  • Must maintain annual certification and state training requirements. Must obtain and maintain additional certifications as required by the College.
  • Must pass pre-employment testing (if applicable), criminal history check (no felony convictions or
  • convictions of moral turpitude), background check, physical, drug test, psychological and/or polygraph exam, and credit history check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement, criminal law and/or security and criminal procedural law terminology. Ability to define elements within federal, state, county, municipal laws and College regulations.
  • Ability to attend court and provide appropriate testimony on behalf of the college.
  • Ability to learn radio codes and terminology in order to communicate clearly via two-way radio.
  • Skill in basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Internet)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Some knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures and ability to apply this knowledge to
    specific situations.
  • Ability to observe unusual or extraordinary events and to relate them to specific situations.
  • Ability to use hand firearms, including .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol, 9mm semiautomatic pistol.
  • Ability to remember names, faces, details of accidents, and to memorize locations, buildings, and places on campus.
  • Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick and effective courses of action with due regard to surrounding circumstances.
  • Ability to complete forms for reporting activities and prepare clear and comprehensive reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Position may require local travel. Position requires fiduciary responsibility, therefore successful completion of a credit report is a condition of employment. Depending upon specific duties, position may require a College-issued uniform or shirt to ensure employees engaged in representing the College to the community are clearly identified as such. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
