The Department of Medicine has an openingfor a full-time Professional Research Assistant in the Schwartz/Yang Lab.

PositionEmphasis:

The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses onunderstanding how a combination of genetic factors and environmental exposurescontribute to an individual's disposition to develop lung diseases, mainly pulmonaryfibrosis. State-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches, including wholegenome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome studies areused to identify targets and biomarkers of early disease in human cohorts.These targets are then studied in animal and cell models. We use wellestablished animal models of lung injury and fibrosis to study how specificgenes or epigenetic marks (potentially heritable modifications to DNA)contribute to disease development. Required skills for this position includeexperience with animal work such as mouse dosing techniques, lung lavages, andhistology.  Experience with mouse colonymanagement and molecular assays (ELISAs, PCR, DNA/RNA extractions,immunohistochemistry) is also desirable. The position is expected to record data and perform basic analyses ofcollected data.

Salaryand Benefits:

The salary range (or the hiring range) for this position has been established at$35,600 to $55,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelorsdegree in biological sciences.

Conditions of Employment:

Must be willing and able to occasionally work on weekends whenrequired by project deadlines. 

Note: This is an essential services position.  The incumbent is required to respond afterhours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shifts duringemergency campus closures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Oneyear of experience as a research technician is preferred.
