The Instructor serves as a teacher and facilitator of learning, and will perform instruction-related responsibilities in a timely manner. The instructor is expected to deliver an educational experience to students consistent with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. Teaching and departmental/school service is expected, as well as specific service to college to support online delivery.
The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. For further information see our website at http://www.uco.edu/ceps.The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies has 23 full-time faculty in 4 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs – Physical Education, Exercise Fitness Management, Outdoor Community Recreation, Public Health, Athletic Training Education and Wellness Management. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:The Kinesiology and Health Studies Department is seeking a quality educator to serve our students in some combination of online and face-to-face classes. Faculty’s primary responsibilities for teaching will be core Healthy Life Skills and public health courses, or other courses as needed.Teaches a course load of four sections (12 credit hours) per semester, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies.Holds educational sessions for faculty showing how to effectively design and deliver online classes, providing guidance on technology, curriculum, and available tools.Assists faculty with the design of online classes in order to strengthen student engagement in the online environment. Creates an internal standard for online course delivery to make faculty aware of expectations in the online class environment. Meets with faculty one-on-one as needed to resolve online class delivery challenges. Works with Department, CeCE, and other key stakeholders to focus on fostering creative new approaches to delivering online programs in public health. In this work, incumbent will also strategically develop and maintain a network of industry and other external organizational partners in order to serve the educational and/or developmental needs of partners. Completes Edu-Innovator training programs for blended learning environment design and delivery, leadership development, and online course facilitation as arranged and provided by The Center for eLearning and Connected Environments. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Excellence in teaching and demonstrated excellence and/or potential in scholarly activities required.The growth of eLearning at the University of Central Oklahoma has presented new opportunities to expand student learning opportunities by providing an increasing number of eLearning courses and programs. A key element of this growth is the employment of specialized candidates with the expertise, training and time to focus on the delivery of these courses and programs for the University of Central Oklahoma. We desire an individual who has significant experience with online and blended learning, including but not limited to expertise with D2L (Desire to Learn Learning Management System), course development, assessment, and/or online program development and assessment.
Qualifications Qualifications An earned Master’s degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Expertise in D2L or other online platform. Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Experience Preferred:Teaching online experience preferred. Experience with the accreditation process in Public Health preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Excellence in teaching and demonstrated potential to publish high quality scholarly research. Previous teaching experience in higher education environment at level of teaching assistant or higher is required. Candidate must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence.
