Overview

The Program Coordinator serves as a resource for all members of the University community on issues of gender and gender equality, and works collaboratively with the Women’s Center Director to support the mission and function of the Women’s Center and Office of Diversity and Inclusion-Campus Life. The coordinator provides extensive programming, outreach and education on campus; assists students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members who access the space and services of the Center; advises student organizations; supervises student employees and volunteers; assists with administration of the Center; makes referrals, and helps maintain the office’s physical space.

Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Women’s Center Director, the primary responsibilities are as follows:

Programming from inception, through delivery, and post-program assessment 40%

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Taking care of all details for each event (i.e. room reservations, contacting presenters, ordering food, setting up and cleaning up after events, negotiating with vendors/agents regarding contracts and payments, etc.).
  • Developing publicity and program materials.
  • Evaluating programs.
  • Assisting the director in conducting programmatic need assessments and strategic planning.
  • Work collaboratively with the director to develop the program agenda for each year, work with colleagues across campus, as well as community partners on joint programmatic initiatives, and physically create a printed and online calendar each semester.
Student Leadership Development and Support Services 25%

Engages with, and offers advisement to student groups that are both directly affiliated with the Women’s Center (including Princeton Women’s Alliance), and those whose missions overlap with that of the Women’s Center (such as Princeton Students for Gender Equality, Princeton Students for Reproductive Justice, Society of Women Engineers, etc.).

  • Maintains contact information and communication with student leaders from across campus (i.e., Athletics, Eating Clubs, RCAs, etc.) to use for various programs that target women leaders.
  • Is the front-line supervisor for the Women’s Center student workers/interns, and is responsible for hiring, training, building work schedules, and ensuring that students have project assignments and are meeting deadlines. The Coordinator directs students to appropriate resources both on and off campus.
Administrative, Budget, and Office Oversight 15%

  • Primary point of contact for persons using the Center’s programs, spaces, and services; and is responsible for creating an inclusive and welcoming experience.
  • Responsible for assisting visitors to the Center, answering phones; checking office voicemail and email, managing room requests, and maintaining the appearance of the common spaces.
  • Responsible for completing all accounting and paperwork associated with the Women’s Center finances and budget management.
  • Other administrative duties include maintaining office subscriptions and social media and online accounts, making service requests when needed, monitoring and ordering office supplies and program materials, and additional duties as assigned.
Communications, Outreach and Resource Development 10%

  • Assists with outreach efforts to students, faculty and academic departments, residential colleges, and other campus entities as guided by the Center’s strategic plan.
  • Assists with oversight of marketing, branding, and communications materials, including electronic and print media (e.g., posters, calendars, webpage, and weekly newsletter).
Special Projects Coordination 10%

  • Most special projects will be programmatic in nature, and include the upcoming celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Women’s Center, awareness weeks and months, alumni and community functions and commemorations.
  • Other functions include developing training curricula for different sectors of the university community (such as for student facilitators of the Dialogue and Difference in Action Program, Residential College Advisors, and leaders of student organizations as requested). The Program Coordinator will maintain an archive of Women’s Center programs, communications, and photos; and will administer the Women’s Center’s collection of books and resource materials.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there may be additional miscellaneous duties assigned.



Qualifications

  • Knowledge of social and political gender issues as well as the intersection of other identities including racial, ethnic, religious, ability-related, sexual, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social identity-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
  • Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written communications skills)
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations
  • Ability to take initiative, problem-solve and work independently with good judgment about when to seek direction
  • Ability to work as a contributing member in a team-oriented environment with an understanding of the larger unit and University contexts. This includes being part of an office team as well as collaborating with colleagues and non-University partners
  • Must be highly proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs, and be able to use current technology to update website and perform basic graphic design.
  • Ability to consistently work some evenings and weekends for programming outside of regular business hours
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 1-3 years of related professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 3-5 years of related professional experience
  • Experience working with college students in a university setting
  • Professional experience working with multicultural and social justice education, including experience in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender
  • Educational background in college student personnel, higher education administration, social work, counseling, sexuality and gender studies, or other related field
  • Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Experience with online outreach and current technology (i.e. social networking sites, virtual worlds, blogs, chat rooms, etc.)
