Stanford University is seeking a Program Manager to oversee all aspects of the Cancer Systems Biology Scholars (CSBS) program and other institutional outreach programs in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The Program Manager will be the administrative leader in: Strategic Planning (overseeing and facilitating activities required to maintain and grow programs, implementing policies and procedures, analyzing trends and key metrics for the programs progress, acting as liaison between directors and internal/external program contributors, recruiting and training staff and program trainees); Financial and Grant Management (grant/contract administration, budget development/oversight, procurement, reporting, monitoring and tracking expenditures, forecasting, assisting with grant preparation and submission; acting as liaison between program and Finance and Administration as well as external funding agencies, ensuring compliance); and Outreach and Event Planning (developing outreach strategies that may include relationship development, communications, and compliance, coordinating and supervising logistics for all program events including seminars, site reviews, courses, workshops, retreats, and symposia).
The Cancer Systems Biology Scholars (CSBS) Program is an NIH-funded postdoctoral training program that aims to produce a new generation of cancer researchers who have the necessary biological and computational skills to embark on a systems biology approach to unravel the complexity of cancer.
The Department of Biomedical Data Science is a world leader in the study of data generated from basic and clinical research and is at the forefront of new discoveries, data mining, data analysis tool development, and more. The Program Manager will serve a pivotal role in developing new partnerships with other Stanford departments, other institutions, and external industry affiliates.

Duties include:
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Understanding of Stanford compliance groups and their roles in supporting departmental partnerships and research
  • Understanding of Stanford's research rules and regulations
  • Experience running seminar series, journal clubs, and other faculty lead research forums

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
