Non-Tenure Track (Open Rank) - Graphic Design

The School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications to fill one or more open-rank, non-tenure-track faculty appointments (up to 100% time for up to 9 months). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level courses for the School of Art + Design in the instructional field of Graphic Design (on-campus or online), mentor and oversee Graduate Teaching Assistants as needed, meet with instructors of other sections when appropriate. These appointments are eligible for renewal at the School’s discretion.

Qualifications

Terminal degree (MFA, MDes or equivalent) in Graphic Design and some undergraduate graphic design teaching experience is required. Instructional experience beyond a teaching assistant position is preferred. Candidate should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments and be in dialogue with contemporary design discourse, particularly as it relates to practice or pedagogy. An excellent working knowledge of appropriate software is required. Any extensive professional or research expertise like: web-coding, user experience, motion, sustainability, service, or active critical practice would be considered an asset.

The school seeks a forward-thinking individual capable of fostering positive relationships and inspiring students. Preference will be given to those with instructional experience beyond a teaching assistant position. The ideal candidate should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments spanning all phases of the product design and development process, including concept through manufacture. Candidates with experience in UI/UX design will warrant special attention.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.

Proposed Starting Dates:

  • 9-month appointments: August 16, 2020
  • Fall-semester appointments: August 16, 2020
  • Spring-semester appointments: January 1, 2021
