DescriptionThe Assistant Director/ELL & International Student Services develops and manages academic support services targeting the diverse needs of language learners at Temple.  The largest of these are: •a tutoring program in which English- and Spanish-language learners can get integrated support with writing, reading, listening and speaking in their target language; and •a course-based conversation-partners program in which students studying French, Korean, Arabic, and other languages can get help succeeding in their courses. •An ongoing program of workshops/events and cultural activities designed for international students. 
This person recruits, hires, develops and evaluates the undergraduate and graduate student workers who work in these programs. In addition, this person oversees daily operations for language learning programs, making work schedules, establishing policies and procedures, designing instructional materials, and so forth.  The Assistant Director/ELL & International Student Services also contributes to a variety of SSC-wide projects, programs and activities.   
In collaboration with key stakeholders at the university, the Assistant Director works to develop a fair and supportive environment for language-learners at Temple University.  The Assistant Director seeks to identify and remove barriers to success for English language learners, and advocates for English language learners and students who speak diverse forms of English.
Finally, the AD serves as a resource for university-wide projects where expertise in TESOL/language learning is required. In this capacity, the incumbent serves on a variety of committees and project teams outside of the SSC and contributes to efforts to improve the experiences and outcomes of ELLs and international students who enroll at Temple. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Spanish or a closely related field. At least two (2) years of experience teaching or tutoring adult/college-age language learners. Supervisory experience including overseeing work schedules and operations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:* Demonstrated ability to develop or oversee educational programs.* Familiarity with current research TESOL, applied linguistics or foreign language instruction.* Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse group of colleagues/clients/students.* Demonstrated interpersonal and client service skills.* Ability to create and present workshops to various size groups.
