The Department of Middle Grades, Secondary, and Science Education and the Department of Cultural Foundations and Leadership in the College of Education invite applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor beginning Fall 2020. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position. This position focuses on middle grades education and the Social Foundations of Education, and we seek a candidate with experience in teaching grades 6-12 with a commitment to diversity and social justice, experience in quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies, and experience in innovative teaching practices. Course assessments may be face-to-face, hybrid, or online. Summer teaching is possible but not guaranteed.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a joint member of the Middles Grades Program, which falls in the Middle, Secondary, and Science Education Department, and the Social Foundations and Education Program, which is housed in the Cultural Foundations and Leadership Department and includes undergraduate, graduate, and certificate courses related to the Social Foundations of Education.
  • Be expected to teach specified courses, prepare course materials, provide support and guidance to students, maintain records pertinent to accreditation, and assist students in securing and completing field placements.
  • Maintain an ongoing research agenda and commitment to service, including participating in recruitment efforts and working with doctoral candidates.
  • Have primary teaching assignments including, EDUC 2110: Critical and Contemporary Issues in Education; EDUC 2120: Exploring Socio-cultural diversity; and/or EDUC 2130: Explore Learning and Teaching and middle-grades content and field and clinical placement courses. Additional opportunities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses may be available, depending upon expertise and qualification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with learning, teaching, and equity and justice-oriented educational theories.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice education.
  • Knowledge of current national content standards.
  • Ability to work collegially with other members of the College faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Required qualifications include an earned Doctorate in Social Foundation or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experiences in grades 6-12.


  • Applicants with additional expertise in one of the following areas are preferred: Special Education, ESOL, Gifted Education, International Baccalaureate programs, Math Education, or Social Studies Education.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in K-12 schools is strongly preferred.
