•Candidates with expertise in film production, website development, social media, and web based advertising will be given priority

Purpose of Job

The successful candidate will fulfill customary duties of a full time faculty member at Alcorn State University, including research, service, and teaching a 4/4 load of Mass Communications classes, including courses in film production, website development, social media and web based advertising.

Scope of Responsibilities

Faculty responsibilities include teaching a 4/4 load, being available to students for conferences and advising, participating in shared faculty governance and service to the University, and producing research commensurate with rank and teaching responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

•Teach a 4/4 load, including meeting all classes as scheduled, skillfully managing classroom, maintaining approved office hours, and advising students;
•Provide service, including attending faculty and committee meetings as required and participating in departmental governance;
•Produce research;
•Attend special University functions as required;
•Create course and syllabus in accordance with the departmental Student Learning Objectives and Syllabus Format;
•Arrive on time and conduct each class for the designated class period;
•Integrate best practices into your teaching;
•Assign work to students, administer formative assessments, and return graded assignments to students in a reasonable amount of time;
•Maintain daily attendance records and report attendance as required;
•Be available to students (including office hours) to answer questions and provide assistance;
•Respond to ASU emails in a timely manner;
•Use the appropriate Learning Management System to post pertinent information for students;
•Post midterm and final grades in a timely manner and adhere to grade reporting requirements;
•Submit requested documentation to the department chair;
•Assume other responsibilities commensurate with rank.

Licensing and Certifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

•Knowledge and experience using current and relevant media related software, including but not limited to InDesign, Edius Pro, Final Cut Pro, PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc.
•Knowledge and experience using Banner and a Learning Management System
•Ability to communicate effectively
•Possess excellent organizational skills
•Experience in working with low income and first generation students
