Purpose of Job

Carry out duties and responsibilities that are designed to contribute to achievement of the established outcomes for the undergraduate departments.

Scope of Responsibilities

Responsibilities include didactic and/or clinical instruction within content areas of expertise, participation in curriculum development, facilitating the procurement of clinical sites for clinical experiences, and advising students. The successful full-time candidate is also expected to participate in research and service activities. The faculty is accountable to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs for carrying out the duties and responsibilities designed to contribute to the achievement of the established objectives of the University, SON and department.

Essential Job Functions

•Contributes to developing and monitoring departmental long-range and annual plans.
•Implements appropriate instructional methodologies to foster and promote the teacher-learning processes.
•Facilitates the development of course objectives, outlines, and students’ performance expectations.
•Maintains prescribed clinical and classroom teaching assignments and office hours.
•Maintains overload hours if required.
•Grades assignments, provides feedback and post grades according to University guidelines.
•Assesses the instructional needs of students in the program and help coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
•Cooperates with other faculty in carrying out activities designed to enhance the quality of the instruction, research and public service programs of the department/university.

Qualifications

•Successful applicants for tenure/tenure-track consideration must hold a terminal degree in nursing or a related field (e.g., nursing, adult education, human genetics, public health, epidemiology); possess research training, a publication record, and experience in the grant funding process commensurate with desired rank and tenure status.
•A master’s degree in nursing is required.
•One year of clinical experience as a registered nurse.
•Must satisfy a criminal history background check.
•Experience in undergraduate education preferred; skill in on-line education a plus.

Licensing and Certifications

•Candidates must be currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Mississippi.
•National certification in an area of clinical specialty or nursing education is desired.
