Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a clinician. /or Licensed or licensure eligible in the state of Mississippi as a school counselor.

Purpose of Job

Alcorn State University has an immediate opening for tenure track position in School Counseling. The individual will teach undergraduate and graduate courses (12 hours per semester); conduct scholarly research and participate in departmental and university services.

Scope of Responsibilities

Responsible for providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the University. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology/counseling; advise students; supervise practicum or internship students in clinical mental health agencies; participate in state, college, department, and program committees; engage in scholarly activities and service to campus and/or community. Conduct scholarly research, build program, acquire grants, supervise research and write and present scholarly papers. Work collaboratively with other faculty in a professional and collegial manner, contribute to the continued growth and development of the counseling program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and, to work on CACREP related activities.

Essential Job Functions

•Teach a twelve (12) hour course load per semester and maintain office hours for addressing students’ needs.
•Actively participate in professional development
•Work with the department chairperson to upgrade courses and curricula, as needed, to ensure that students graduating from the programs are locally, state, and nationally competitive
•Engage in scholarly research
•Create and maintain a working environment conducive to excellence in teaching and learning
•Demonstrate commitment to diversity
•Provide essential leadership to develop and enhance instructional program.
•Participate in advising students and maintaining accurate files
•Respond appropriately to requests from the administration, the faculty, staff and students.
•Provide essential leadership to develop and enhance graduate instructional programs
•Advise students of program options
•Work on upgrading the curricula to include new program options
•Maintain databases and complete all reports required by the School of Education and Psychology and University in a timely manner.

OTHER DUTIES: Other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean
