Minimum Qualifications:•Earned doctorate or an equivalent degree in Nutrition, Health promotion, Food Sciences, Community Health Sciences, Public Health or closely related field from an accredited institution.
Purpose of Job:Perform duties essential to the efficient operation of the undergraduate program in Food Nutrition and Community Health Sciences (FNCHS) which include teaching, advisement and research engagement.
Scope of Responsibilities:•Instructional responsibilities, 12 hours course load per semester
•Student advisement
•Mentor student research and experiential learning;
•Maintain an active research agenda within a discipline associated with Food, Nutrition and Community Health Sciences
•Expand the undergraduate program to a graduate level program;
•Contribute to the growth and development of the Human Sciences department.
This is a 9-month tenure-track position.
The chosen candidate will:
•Teach undergraduate courses in multiple areas of nutrition, community sciences from basic to advanced nutrition, basic nutrition and food science, health promotion, health education, public health, as well as food service and food service management.
•Mentor students in research, scholarship and career planning
•Engaging in scholarship and research endeavors
•Contribute to professional, departmental and university services
•Engage in curriculum development
•Assist in recruitment of students for the FNCHS program
•Develop and conduct meaningful and viable research
•Earned doctorate or an equivalent degree in Nutrition, Health promotion, Food Sciences, Community Health Sciences, Public Health or closely related field from an accredited institution.
•Demonstrated ability of teaching experience in higher education in prevention science, nutrition, community health science, food science or related areas.
•Experience in curriculum development and outcomes assessment for undergraduate and supervised practice programs
•Evidence of research excellence, ability to draw, develop and conduct extramurally funded research
•Membership, participation and leadership in relevant professional organizations
•Ability to work with a diverse staff, faculty and student population
•Evidence of peer-reviewed research, publications, and/or presentations
Preferred licensing and certifications in one of the four following areas:
•Registered Dietitian
•Licensed in the State of Mississippi as a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist
•Certified Health Education Specialist
•Certified in Public Health
•Communicate effectively with individuals and groups
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Proven ability to work with departments across all levels of the University
•Contribute to development and implementation of university and campus strategic plan
•Provide support for continuous process improvement of the academic programs and the department
•Interact effectively with state and national leadership and organizations on behalf of the department
•Contribute to the Strategic Plan for Alcorn State University School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, (SAAS) and the Department of Human Sciences
