Position Summary:

FAU Student Health Services is seeking Case and Contact Trackers.

The purpose of this position is to contact every Florida Atlantic University (FAU) student contact of persons diagnosed with COVID-19. This is to support university-wide efforts to increase testing, improve communication, and the implementation of isolation and quarantine. This will fortify efforts to control the pandemic at FAU. The Case and Contact Tracker will use a web-based client resource management (CRM) platform to communicate with COVID-19- related FAU student contacts to document symptom screening, refer them for testing according to established protocols, and to provide them with instructions for quarantine. Case and Contact Trackers are required to follow all scripts, policies and procedures provided by FAU Student Health Services (SHS) and comply with university training regarding confidential information.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Contact Tracking

  • Communicate with contacts of newly diagnosed patients in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Collect and record information on symptoms into the CRM.
  • Screen contacts and general university community members according to SHS COVID-19 policy.
  • Notify (update EHR system) SHS of quarantine/isolation statuses.
  • Escalate symptomatic contacts to clinical personnel for further action.
  • Provide and explain contacts with approved information about SHS quarantine/isolation procedures.
  • Refer contact or schedule to COVID-19 testing according to SHS COVID-19 policy.
  • If necessary, work with FAU Dean of Students Office to obtain class rosters to disseminate scripted notification about possible exposure and issue self-monitoring information.
  • If appropriate, liaison with FAU Housing and Residential Education (HRE) about quarantine/isolation needs.
  • If appropriate, refer to FAU Dean of Students Office or other university departments for social resources.
  • If appropriate, work with FAU Sports Medicine Team for student athletes.
  • If appropriate, notify FAU HR about any FAU employee contacts.
  • If appropriate, work with FAU Environmental Health & Safety for facility, classroom, building concerns.
  • Strict adherence to the script to inform contacts about the importance of quarantine and what to do if symptoms develop.

Case Tracking

  • Communicate with contacts periodically to check health status.
  • Escalate symptomatic contacts to clinical personnel for further action.
  • Verify testing status of contacts.
  • Ensure test results have been received.
  • Coordinate and schedule health clearances from quarantined/isolated patients at SHS.
  • Update systems with health status changes (symptoms, clearances).
  • If appropriate, liaison with HRE, FAU Sports Medicine Team, or HR about health status changes.
  • Other: Prepare status reports as requested. Required use of FAU issued telephone, computer and electronic equipment. Participate in institutional, divisional, and department-wide events as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and three years’ experience working in a health or social services setting required. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic.

Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.

Ability to show empathy to distressed individuals.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Critical thinking and sound judgment required.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Proficiency with technology requirements.

Comply with SHS employee health requirements.

$18 per hour
