Job Summary

The Associate Director of Alumni and Corporate Relations for the iCons Program (Integrated Concentration in Science) in the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is responsible for engaging alumni, stewarding donors, and building corporate relationships that advance the iCons Program. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Advancement in CNS and works closely with the Executive Director of iCons.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees and builds a robust alumni network and related programming. Promotes awareness of the Mahoney iCons Alumni Award; develops an iCons alumni “giving back” fundraising initiative.
  • Establishes and manages a network of corporate partners who sponsor internships, provide mentors, and give financial support.
  • Compiles relevant data/information and coordinates the development of progress reports for the following programs: Mahoney Life Sciences Prize, Presentation Training, and Grant Writing Skills Training.
  • Assists with planning all aspects of the Mahoney Life Sciences Prize event in coordination with respective university departments and internal/external partners. Supports the application review process associated with the Mahoney Life Sciences Prize and engages with the industry panel judges (as appropriate) to strengthen the College of Natural Sciences Advancement efforts.
  • Provides written briefings and other support materials that include prospect strategy, meeting objectives, and next steps, to the Executive Director of iCons, Dean of CNS, and other university leaders who meet with assigned prospects. Writes and edits reports, gift agreements and donor proposals. Works with communications staff within CNS to feature important iCons donors and alumni.
  • Follows development procedures with regard to prospect management and documenting contacts. Submits all appropriate prospect pool fundraising reports, metrics, and results. Responsible for timely entry of visits, proposals, event attendance and other appropriate fundraising activity.
  • Attends on and off campus alumni events and engagements in which assigned prospects are present, and as requested by the Executive Director of iCons and the Assistant Dean for Advancement.
  • Promotes university priorities and image to constituents. Maintains current knowledge of institutional priorities. Proactively anticipates and responds to donor inquiries.
  • Stewards assigned donors through ongoing communications, recognition activities, invitations to key events, interaction with beneficiaries of their support, and the preparation of impact reports. Carefully records donor intentions when securing gifts and processes all appropriate documentation.
  • Other Functions

    Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet iCons Program and University goals and objectives.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a development program, preferably within an educational institution. Equivalent experience in private sector sales, marketing or related field will be considered.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent administrative skills.
    • Previous experience working with senior level executives.

    Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    Knowledge of prospect management systems and experience working in a donor database.

    Typical office environment.

    Additional Details

    This is a 5 year term limited position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon funding.

    Work Schedule

    • Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
    • Required to travel independently, within the United States, on a frequent basis.
    • Required to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
