Job Description:


Adjunct Instructor- Construction(Sewing Level 1 and 2)
Job Description: Construction
Individuals appointed will teach Materials and Construction level 1 and/or 2, both required core classes in the Fashion AAS Program. The positions require a comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques. The instructor will teach an array of hands-on design room techniques aiding in the construction of various garments from a skirt to a fully lined sewn blazer. These two classes are sewing classes; not tailoring classes. Knowledge of basic construction machinery is required. Instructors are required to assess student performance and submit grades within the academic timetable.

Adjunct Instructor- Design Studio (Draping Level 1,2 and 3)
Job Description: Draping
Individuals appointed will teach Design Studio classes at level 1, 2, or 3. All three courses are required core classes in the Fashion AAS Program. The positions require a comprehensive knowledge of draping techniques. The instructor will teach an array of hands-on draping techniques including fundamentals such as the proper use of tools, grain and garment balance. Unstructured draping techniques using soft fabrics as well as structured draping methods leading to the creation of a more structured garment are to be taught. Finishing details and the relationship between Two-dimensional patternmaking and three-dimensional draping techniques are to be formally explored. Knowledge of various construction techniques, finishing details and best finishing practices are also taught through the three levels of study. A comfort with basic construction machinery is required. Instructors are required to assess student performance and submit grades within the academic timetable.


Adjunct Instructor- Apparel Design Studio- Patternmaking

Job Description: Patternmaking
Individuals appointed will teach Apparel Design Studio- Patternmaking, a
required core class in the Fashion AAS Program. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of patternmaking techniques. The instructor will teach an array of hands-on design room patternmaking techniques including the development of basic slopers, pattern identification and tool usage. Basic through advanced techniques will be explored as design prototypes are developed. Knowledge of basic construction machinery is required. Instructors are required to assess student performance and submit grades within the academic timetable.



Requirements:


Candidates are required to have an Associate Degree. In addition, the applicant must possess a minimum of six years working experience as designer/design-technician. Basic computer literacy is required. Previous teaching at the college level is preferred.



Additional Information:


Hourly rate: $72.08 per hour

The Fashion Institute of Technology is a State University of New York college of art and design located in New York City. In 1951, it became one of the first SUNY community colleges empowered to grant the Associate of Applied Science degree. Today, FIT also grants Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in fashion and fashion-related fields.
