Position Description
The Texas Tech University (TTU) School of Veterinary Medicine (the School) is seeking to fill a non-tenure track faculty position to serve as the Director of the Distributed Veterinary Learning Community (DVLC) that is central to the School's instruction, scholarship, and service. The School is an exciting, innovative, and fully funded new veterinary education program located in Amarillo, TX. The new School will be first veterinary educational program established in Texas in a century. It is specifically focused on the veterinary medical and educational needs of rural and regional communities of Texas, and to provide access to affordable education.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Report to the Associate Dean for Clinical Programs.
  • Engage the veterinary profession in Texas to strategically recruit practice partners into the Distributed Veterinary Learning Community (DVLC).
  • Strategically engage and recruit other non-clinical partners such as zoos, livestock operations, and governmental agencies, into the DVLC.
  • Assist with onboarding of practice partners to orient them in educating and evaluating students.
  • Liaise with practice partners to maintain relationships and to gain input for programmatic improvements.
  • Implement all components of the Schools quality assurance program for practice partners to ensure compliance with AVMA COE requirements for instructional sites that deliver core off-site curricular rotations.
    • Develop and implement plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Staff supervision.
  • Serve on relevant School Committees.
  • Where appropriate, contribute to the School’s instruction, scholarship, and service activities. The distribution of effort toward each activity will be individualized for each faculty member and outlined in the letter of appointment.
  • Contribute to activities necessary to receive accreditation from the AVMA COE, other regulatory or accreditation approvals.
  • The successful candidates will be expected to foster a values-based environment within the School, and to develop collegial relationships with faculty, staff and students at TTU and the TTUHSC, and other institutions as appropriate.
  • Additional comments:
    • The curriculum is centered around general veterinary practice in rural and regional communities. A central function of the DVLC is to collective provide instructional opportunities for professional students within the context of the School’s mission.

  • Required Qualifications
    DVM degree. Prior experience in engagement with the veterinary profession to develop, implement, or provide oversight of a DVLC-like structure is preferred. Prior practice experience in addition to clinic management or oversight of clinicals is preferred.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have a successful track record of teamwork and service. The successful candidates must share and foster the School’s core values; annual evaluation of faculty includes evaluation of academic performance as well as contribution to fostering the School’s core values. Adaptability, persistence, and resilience will be important attributes for success in the evolving dynamics that are characteristic of a developing program.
