Description

This is a full-time 12-month position in the Division of Nursing and Health Professions to take responsibility for the overall management and maintenance of accreditation of the Physical Therapist Assistant program. This individual must meet the minimum expectations required by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) which includes experience in didactic and/or clinical teaching, administration/management, and educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment. Due to the nature of the practice of physical therapy and accreditation requirements, class preparation, teaching, office hours, testing, and skill tutoring will comprise 50% of the 35-hour workweek. Administration of the program, including meetings and committee work, will comprise the remaining 50% of the 35-hour workweek. This position may require travel for College, accreditation, and clinical activities.

Examples of Duties

  1. Supervises and evaluates full-time and adjunct PTA faculty per College policy.
  2. Implements instructional strategies that ensures student retention and student success.
  3. Collaborates with various departments at RCSJ, including admissions and advisement.
  4. Develops and implements curriculum, student, and program policies.
  5. Participate in both short- and long-term planning for the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  6. Collects and analyzes data for institution and accreditation mandates and reports.
  7. Communicates effectively with community stakeholders.
  8. Complies with RCSJ core values and criteria related to teaching effectiveness, scholarship and community service.
  9. Coordinates instruction and assessment of courses and program.
  10. Develops and implements outcomes-based course assessment and program effectiveness methodologies.
  11. Accepts the responsibility that all program policies, procedures, and practices provide compliance with accreditation policies and procedures.
  12. Monitors compliance with institutional, governmental and accreditation standard.
  13. Prepares annual PTA program component of the budget, including expenses, allocations and program fees for submission to the Division Dean.
  14. Maintains an annual calendar that identifies key tasks and the associated requirements with respect to the maintenance of the program accreditation.
  15. Remains the responsible individual for direct communication with CAPTE.
  16. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant or physical therapy program, or deemed equivalent program
  • Experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment, including the equivalent of nine credits of coursework in educational foundations.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail. database) or proven ability to learn these skills
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy
  • Able to initiate, administer, assess, and document clinical education programs
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers
  • Ability to travel, as needed
  • Demonstrated leadership and teaching experience
  • Commitment to the community college mission including addressing the needs of a diverse student population
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities
  • Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources
  • Commitment and ability to utilize instructional strategies to promote student recruitment, retention, and success
  • Ability to help students adjust to the college academic community
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with students, colleagues, administration, and the community
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Dedication to improving college course offerings by active participation in curriculum processes, including outcomes assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with others
  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Work effectively with others.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
  • Possesses a current PT or PTA license in the state of New Jersey
  • Earned doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Maintains contemporary practice through clinical work, activity within the professional association, or volunteer activities within the profession
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels
  • Earned status as an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCI)
  • Service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community and/or the profession
