Appointment: The University of Puget Sound seeks an energetic and visionary Director to launch and lead a new Masters in Public Health program, including the process to attain accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Puget Sound MPH includes key components aligned with social justice and community engagement, and aligns with institutional mission as articulated in Leadership for a Changing World strategic plan. The program will serve a regional need for quality public health care through well-trained professionals, and complement the University’s other strong health-related graduate programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Counseling. Our highly-regarded undergraduate sciences programs also provide opportunities in areas in which to build the program.
The first Director of the MPH program will refine the approved curriculum, recruit students and faculty to the program, and forge key community relationships with regional health care providers. This opportunity invites qualified applicants who have a desire to creatively develop and thoughtfully lead a new graduate program at a nationally-ranked liberal arts university in the Seattle-Tacoma region.The Director of the Master of Public Health Program is a full-time tenure-line position to begin no later than January 2021 for the 2020-21 academic year in a newly approved public health program that will commence its inaugural cohort in Fall 2021. The first year will prepare the program and recruit students to enter in Fall 2021; in subsequent years, the Director will have a 2 units administrative and 4 units teaching load.Responsibilities:
Include, but not limited to:
Lead the accreditation process for the MPH program. Teach selected MPH graduate-level core and/or elective courses (e.g., foundations of public health, introduction to biostatistics, fundamentals of epidemiology, environmental health, healthcare management & administration, and/or program development & evaluation) based on expertise.Lead faculty in collaborative work on refining the strategic planning of the program that is aligned with the mission and priorities of the university.Administer and oversee the program’s various operations, including admission processes, leading the development of curricular/course proposals, departmental manual and review guidelines, and management of budget and resources. Develop and maintain strong external partnerships with community stakeholders, health departments, and local/regional, national and international organizations.Engage with prospective students and mentor graduate students. Other duties include participation in program and university governance and continuation of professional development in the faculty member's area of expertise. Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in public health related field, preferably from a CEPH-accredited program OR doctorate in a related field. Employment as full-time faculty member (with experience teaching and mentoring MPH students) OR as a public health practitioner for a minimum of 3 years. Demonstrated administrative and/or leadership experience in public health, with CEPH expertise preferred. Demonstrated leadership or experience in public health settings and demonstrated understanding of working with diverse populations. Research interests or professional experience in evidence-based, culturally responsive interventions preferred. Commitment to a university based on the principles of the liberal arts.Application Deadline:
