Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This position is a technician in the Department of Plant Biology, University of Georgia, Athens to aid in research of the ecology of plant-microbial interactions in the Chung lab, and to assist in day-to-day lab managerial tasks. Field work and travel to greenhouse spaces will involve driving.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Highly detail-oriented, organized, and willing to work as part of a team, as this position will require keeping track of multiple projects and people. Experience conducting plant ecology work in the field and greenhouse. Plant ID skills preferred. Background knowledge in plant-microbe interactions and experience in molecular laboratory skills preferred, but not necessary. Knowledge of statistics and the R programming language desirable.

Physical Demands

Lab and field work. Field work likely will be conducted in the Southeast and/or Southwest, and both are very hot places in the summer.

Carrying out research-essential tasks in the Chung lab investigating plant-microbe interactions. Will likely include: DNA extractions, PCRs/library prep, data entry/processing/analysis, microscopy, running and taking care of greenhouse/growth chamber experiments, and field work. If candidate desires, there could be opportunities to write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Ensure that the lab is running smoothly. This will likely include: ordering and organizing of lab supplies and consummables, mentoring and managing undergraduate research workers, and prompt and effective communication with the PI and lab members.
