The Department of Physical Therapy at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a new 9-month tenure-track or fixed-term position at the assistant, associate, or professor level. our program’s needs in Asheville and Cullowhee, NC. The starting date of the position is negotiable. Teaching responsibilities include instruction of entry-level DPT students according to candidate’s areas of specialization. Additional responsibilities will include scholarly activity, service internal and external to the university, and student advising.
The physical therapy program fosters a student-centered learning environment where faculty highly value diversity, inclusive excellence, interprofessional teamwork and a dynamic, positive work environment. Excellent opportunities are available for collaborative teaching, service, and research with other programs and regional healthcare organizations. Extensive support is available for faculty development. Salary and rank are commensurate with academic qualifications and experience.
The program has students in both Asheville and Cullowhee with custom designed laboratories and excellent instructional technology resources and support for synchronous video delivery between locations. The Biltmore Park instructional site is in Asheville, 50 miles away from Cullowhee, and houses several graduate programs including physical therapy, nursing, and social work. All faculty have primary assignments, but teach in both locations at times in order to foster strong relationships with all students. ●Academic Doctorate from an accredited institution at the time of hire (PhD, DSc, ScD, or EdD)
●PT degree with eligibility for PT license in the state of North Carolina
●Ability to teach in two or more of the following content/practice areas: clinical reasoning, cardiopulmonary, pharmacology, musculoskeletal, pain science, or pediatric physical therapy
●Record of scholarship and/or a clear plan for a future scholarly agenda
●Commitment to community engagement through teaching, service, and scholarship
●Three years teaching in a physical therapy program or a related discipline in higher education with evidence of strong teaching skills and use of instructional technology
