The Office of Internationalization provides leadership and support for the University of Denvers efforts to internationalize the curriculum and the campus. Position Summary

The Director of the Office of International Education's (OIE) role is to provide leadership and manage the University's education abroad programming, and implement developments in term-length and other study abroad opportunities as decided by various constituencies on campus, primarily the Vice Provost for Internationalization, the Internationalization Council and other faculty and staff committees/units. The Director also advises students, parents, faculty, and staff of the various opportunities for studying abroad. This position is responsible for promotion of programs; management of program sites; preparing students for an experience abroad; transferring course credit; managing compliance and risk concerns regarding study abroad for the university; and responding to the needs of students, parents, staff, and faculty. The Director is also responsible for managing the study abroad operational and program budgets in conjunction with the Director of Budget and Operations. Finally, this position advocates and supports the articulation and integration of connections between study abroad and global learning outcomes across campus.

Essential Functions

  • Implement developments in programming at DU under the guidance of faculty committees, the Vice Provost for Internationalization, and other University groups.
  • Manage all aspects of the various study abroad programs at the University of Denver (including undergraduate term-length), coordinating DU Partner Programs, the Cherrington program, and unaffiliated programs.
  • Manage and supervise all elements of the study abroad process: advising process, orientations, study abroad process and materials, family and parent connection and ethos, transcript process, etc.
  • Serve as liaison to various university offices to maintain effective processes: Financial Aid, Registrar, Bursars Office, Legal, ERM, IR, Academic Advising, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Campus Safety, etc.
  • Manage study abroad personnel (currently a team of six). Responsible for developing clear job guidelines, professional development, performance tracking and reviews, etc.
  • Develop and analyze pre- and post-study abroad surveys and learning outcome assessment.
  • In conjunction with Enterprise Risk Management, manage all components of compliance (VA Benefits, Title IV, Title IX, Cleary, etc.), risk and crisis management issues for the study abroad division.
  • Develop and maintain polices for the OIE, develop and maintain legal signature documents, all pre-departure materials relating to risk management, Global Grades and Credit Scale, etc.
  • Work with Institutional Research (IR) to assist with Open Doors reporting.
  • Work across campus units to integrate study abroad curriculum and outcomes, supporting and integrating university goals for global learning.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • 6-7 years of experience in study abroad and international education.
  • Experience in study abroad program development, promotion, and long-range planning.
  • Understanding of the complexities involved in studying abroad and cross-cultural awareness.
  • Advanced understanding of the functions of a Study Abroad office; i.e., how exchanges are established and maintained; how affiliated programs function; knowledge of various work, study, and travel abroad opportunities; and advising students.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in international education.
  • Demonstrated dedication to the field through continued professional development and/or membership in professional associations.
  • Proficiency in at least one foreign language.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Overseas living experience.
  • Advanced coursework in international education.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
