Under the general supervision of the Dean of Trade, Industry, and Apprenticeship, this individual is responsible for providing instruction and training to students in the Carpentry- Apprenticeship related courses. This position is responsible for the delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning, and the on-going development of curriculum and learning strategies, which meet the needs of students and employers. We are recruiting for an instructor to teach the following courses in the Spring of 2021:

Spring 2021 - Carpentry Apprenticeship 4, Fridays, 7 am - 3 pm
Apprentices will explore the various thermal and moisture protection materials and industry installation techniques. Insulation materials and residential waterproofing products will be identified and include discussion and best practices for job site installation. The course will also include examining and understanding building science in residential construction. The physics of air movement and interaction of people, residences, and the environment will be discussed, along with framing and air sealing details.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. The ordering of the duties and responsibilities do not represent a rank order of said duties and responsibilities. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties will be required and assigned.

1. Facilitation of Learning- Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in the Carpentry Apprenticeship Program. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.
2. Curriculum Development- Develop, revise, and update curriculum and instructional materials, which are consistent with employer expectations.
3. Classroom Management- Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
4. Student Support and Guidance- Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.
5. Professional Development- Participate in professional development activities, which provide for continually updated knowledge and skills for the role of the contemporary instructor as directed.

Qualifications

Training and Experience

• Completion of Wisconsin Licensed Apprenticeship/Journey-level Carpentry, and
  1. Minimum of two years of occupational experience (Wisconsin Licensed Journey-level Carpentry) in the field of the program or programs being taught, of which at least one year shall be within the last five years. (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.) or
  2. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable knowledge may be substituted.
• Teaching or training experience is desirable.
• Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
• Ability to meet Faculty Assurance Qualification System (FQAS) requirements.

Other

Compensation
Adjunct instructors are extended a letter of appointment for courses instructed and are compensated $46 per hour per 8-hour day of instruction. Benefits are not included with this part-time position.
