Associate Vice President, Alumni Relations and Chief Alumni Officer

Florida International University – a dynamic, multicultural, public research university with locations across South Florida and the globe – welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice President, Alumni Relations and Chief Alumni Officer.

With a student body of nearly 54,000 Florida International University (FIU) is among the top 10 largest universities in the nation and has collectively graduated more than 200,000 alumni; 115,000 of whom live and work in the region. As the face of the country's future in higher education demographics: FIU is a majority-minority institution and the first and only public research university in Miami-Dade County. It serves as South Florida's anchor institution and is a solutions center for the world's toughest challenges. The next Associate Vice President (AVP) and Chief Alumni Officer (CAO) will have the opportunity to provide leadership, direction and oversight for all alumni-focused efforts of the organization, including both engagement and alumni giving. FIU is an engine of progress in the South Florida community, contributing nearly $9 billion to the local economy. The successful incumbent has an opportunity to lead in a culturally diverse environment, with more than half of FIU students being the first in their families to earn a college degree and approximately 90% of their freshman class are minority students.

The AVP and CAO reports directly to the CEO of the FIU Foundation and Senior Vice President of University Advancement, Howard Lipman. Supervisory responsibilities include direct-line supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations, and the engagement and giving teams as well as a 25+ volunteer board of directors. It will also be important to continue excellent relationships and communication with constituents outside of university advancement, including the university President, Provost, CFO, External Relations, General Counsel, Governmental Relations, Student Affairs, deans, faculty, alumni and leadership volunteers.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the AVP and CAO will serve as the tactical leader in developing strategies, programs and communications that effectively develop, promote and nurture relationships between FIU and its stakeholders that lead to lifelong involvement with, and in support of, the university. The next leader will form and foster strong collaborative and mutually supportive relationships within the 200+ Panther Alumni Networks and the larger university community to achieve institutional goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will be a visionary collaborator and innovative leader with a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all its forms. In this role, integrating the core strategic themes of Philanthropic Eminence, Operational Excellence and a Plan for Tomorrow is essential. The AVP and CAO will provide leadership and strategic direction to the Panther Nation, Office of Alumni Relations and the FIU Alumni Association Board of Directors, in order to develop and implement programs and initiatives that engage FIU constituents (alumni, donors, students, parents, friends and the community). This leader will guide a team of alumni relations professionals, serve as a university citizen and effectively recruit and manage volunteers.
