Clarkson University seeks a new dean to lead the School of Arts and Sciences in support of faculty excellence and student success in both graduate and undergraduate education and research across the wide array of disciplines which comprise the school. Clarkson is a private, national research university that is a leader in technological education and sustainable economic development through teaching, research, scholarship and innovation.
Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean of Arts and Sciences oversees the academic program and faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences, one of six schools in the University. With 163 faculty and staff, 571 undergraduate and 290 graduate students, the School of Arts and Sciences offers traditional disciplinary areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, History, and Psychology, as well as opportunities to address recently emerging issues such as Biomolecular Science and Digital Arts & Sciences. The Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences provides leadership and direction to the units of the School of Arts & Sciences, oversight of the academic program, support for faculty and students, and advocacy for the school inside and outside the university. The new dean will demonstrate a deep appreciation for the mission and aspirations of Clarkson University and will play a meaningful role in the Clarkson community. While well-developed administrative skills are essential for success in this role, the ideal candidate will also possess an educator’s passion for and abiding commitment to the welfare and success of each student.

The successful candidate will present a record of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, in an environment where undergraduate education, graduate education, and research productivity are all part of the institutional mission. Required credentials are an earned Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a record of scholarship which meets Clarkson’s requirements for the full professor rank. Demonstrated experience in academic administration, with evidence of sound fiscal and personnel management, faculty oversight and research development are a priority.Physical Demands:
