A preferred candidate will have significant experience with protein expression and purification using a eukaryotic host organism.

Position Summary

The person in this position will work with a postdoctoral associate to obtain and process specific white blood cell populations. One aspect of the position will be travelling to multiple partner hospitals in Augusta and Atlanta to obtain these materials. Once obtained, the cells will be processed in our lab on the main UGA campus in Athens. Another responsibility of the position will be preparing DNA for recombinant protein expression using human embryonic kidney cells, expressing, purifying and characterizing the proteins. Maintaining a positive and supportive working environment is a requirement.

This position is funded by external resources and is subject to terminate when funding is no longer available.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field.
2 years experience with molecular biology techniques.
Basic molecular biology skills, excellent sterile technique.
Significant experience with protein expression and purification using a eukaryotic host organism.

Physical Demands

Perform biochemistry experiments in a laboratory. This includes working at a laboratory bench and desk, reaching into equipment including incubators as well as transferring reagents to other rooms.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Obtain and process primary human leukocytes from Augusta and Atlanta. This will include working with blood from donors to isolate individual leukocyte populations and validation.

DNA cloning, protein expression, protein characterization. This will include expressing multiple proteins using multiple expression platforms followed by purification

General laboratory maintenance (test eyewashes, prepare disposables, discard lab waste, etc). Each laboratory member contributes to lab maintenance.
