Teaching Associates typically are responsible for providing classroom and/or laboratory instruction for general education courses; EES 1, EES 4 and/or EES 9. These serve about 1400 students per year and consequently, teaching assistants are a vital part of general education at Fresno State, and are the closest connection between the general student population and the EES Dept. Duties include communicating lab curriculum and expectations to students, laboratory activity set up and clean up, grading student assignments, preparing course materials, administering examinations, keeping regular office hours and providing students with extra assistance, attending a weekly organizational meeting, and determining course grades. Also, incumbents may assist faculty with field experience, supervision, simulation exercises and/or research projects. This is a part-time teaching position constituting a maximum of 6 weighted teaching units per semester. Concurrent enrollment in the EES Department teaching assistant training course is required.

1. Completion of a bachelor's degree in geology or related field, or equivalent coursework.
2. Admission to and concurrent enrollment in the Fresno State Master’s Program in Geology with a 3.0 GPA or better.

4. Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
