The University of Denver is seeking an experienced, driven, and passionate partner to join our Career & Professional Development team as the Director of Student Employment. As part of Chancellor Haefners vision to create an innovative 4-Dimensional student experience on campus, the University of Denver is investing in growth and realignment of the Student Employment office to offer enhanced service to both students and their supervisors. The Director will work with a community of talented professionals to develop and manage this innovative direction by strategically creating meaningful learning opportunities for student employees and training student supervisors to provide high quality experiences.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Employer Connections within the Career & Professional Development Team. The Director of Student Employment is a new position dedicated to building a best-in-class student employment program at the University of Denver. The Director develops strategy and manages all functions of Student Employment, including supporting supervisors in developing/marketing positions, training supervisors to provide excellent employment experiences, and developing training and processes for student employees to ensure high quality learning experiences. Additionally, this leader will manage data collection efforts on key metrics to assess program success. The Director of Student Employment will lead coordination efforts with critical campus partners such as Financial Aid, Human Resources & Inclusive Community, and Shared Services including convening an ongoing working group that will inform the rollout of the program across campus to ensure strong coordination across many stakeholder units. The Director functions as a key member of the Career & Professional Development leadership team and Employer Connections team and will hire and supervise an Assistant Director of Student Employment.

This position is funded through an internally funded five-year innovation grant, after which time there will be a review of programmatic outcomes to assess permanent position funding.

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership of Student Employment

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for a high-quality student employment program at the University of Denver.
  • Create protocols for utilizing the career development technology for student employment job postings and determine efficient workflows for ensuring a positive experience for students and supervisors.
  • Hire, train and supervise an Assistant Director for Student Employment.
  • Collaborate closely with student development and HR colleagues to create and provide coordinate trainings, resources, and communications.
  • Consult with Staff and Student Supervisors across campus to help solve problems and answer questions regarding student employment best practices.

Training & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with Human Resources colleagues to create a student employee orientation that prepares students to be successful in their campus roles while setting goals to enhance professional skill development.
  • Develop professional development programs for student employees to enhance professional skills needed to be successful in campus jobs and beyond.
  • Identify key competencies for student employees and supervisor development as well as ensure programmatic framework positively impacts learning outcomes.

Partnerships & University Citizenship

  • Convene and lead a Student Employment Task Force that guides the direction of the office to ensure comprehensive organizational success and coordination.
  • Communicate with campus leaders and student supervisors on program goals and successes.
  • Host student employment job fair to aid campus departments in filling available positions while creating awareness for students.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education or work experience (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for the degree qualification)
  • 5 years of related experience in human resources, career services, student affairs, or a related field
  • Previous supervisory experience

Salary Range:
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
