Summary:

This position is responsible for recruiting, retaining, and supporting Marian University’s 21st Century Scholars. The director facilitates all aspects of Marian University’s 21st Century Scholar program including: recruiting events for high school scholars, orientation programs, coordinates academic and leadership development programs, as well as one on one meetings with scholars to develop strategies for success.

Marian University’s Office of 21st Century Scholars is affiliated with the Center for Academic Success and Engagement and the division of Student Success and Engagement.The office works closely with the Office of Admission, Financial Aid, and the Unity Center.The position will also engage with community Partners such as Starfish Initiative, Center for Leadership Development and Indiana’s Commission for Higher Education.

Recruitment:

Recruit and support prospective 21st Century Scholars to the University. In coordination with the Office of Admissions, attend scheduled college fairs, participate in high school visits and other recruitment events. Design, implement, and assess camp experiences for 21st Century Scholar high school students in coordination with GEAR UP, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and Starfish Initiative. Coordinate 21st Century Scholar full tuition scholarship selection process and assist in the University’s scholarship days. Collaborate with community organizations such as Starfish, the Center for Leadership Development, Stepping Stones, La Plaza, Flanner House, and the Commission for Higher Education to deliver recruitment/awareness initiatives to the 21st Century Scholar population in the Indianapolis community.

Student Development:

Develop and implement initiatives that encourage leadership and career development to ensure scholar success and engagement through Marian University’s signature 21st Century Scholar events including: peer-to-peer mentoring program, Career Connections, experiential learning activities, and service activities. Track and report scholar completion of scholar requirements: academic progress; service hours; academic success seminars; social engagements; extra-curricular activities; leadership roles; mentor participation. Assess qualitative and quantitative data related to scholar success. Coordinate with Indiana Commission for Higher Education staff to monitor, report, and assist scholars in the completion of College Scholar Success Program Requirements. Serve as program advisor to each scholar. Develop orientation programs and scholar events both on and off campus surrounding the themes of academic success, career development, cultural competency, and community engagement.

Additional Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned:

Director supervises part-time assistant director of 21st Century Scholars, ScholarCorp member, and student employees. Represent Marian University in 21st Century Scholars state-wide functions and attend related meetings, conferences and workshops. Build networks with schools, guidance counselors, parent groups and community agencies. Search, apply for, and maintain a variety of grants to support the 21st Century Scholar program. Attend regular trainings or professional development opportunities to grow cultural competency in order to appropriately serve the diverse 21st Century Scholar community. Maintain accurate updated records regarding office budget and grant related account.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Experience working in secondary or higher education, or related field.Minimum of three years’ experience in Student Affairs or related field required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience, based in current best practices in admission and student development, in a college/university setting.
  • Excellent communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the university and the public.
  • Ability to work an adjusted schedule when required by the position; some evening and weekend availability will be required.
