Essential Duties Summary

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Field experience or military experience may be substituted.

Required Licensing/Certification

3rd Grade Stationary Engineer preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read, write and speak English, and perform simple arithmetic calculations are required. Ability to work well with a diverse staff and student population. Knowledge and ability to do routine, preventive and corrective building maintenance is required. Proficiency in troubleshooting HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, air handlers, fan coil units, pneumatic and digital control systems are required. Ability to work with minimum of supervision.

Work Experience

Requires three (3) year previous building maintenance experience to include one (1) year experience in plant operations.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility for employees or students.

Work Complexity/Budget Authority

Tasks are multiple and focus more on single processes. Work is sometimes standardized and sometimes varied. No responsibility for budget, revenues and expenditure authority.

Independent Judgment/Decision Making/Problem Solving Skills

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and some innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies and practices. Refers unusual problems to supervisor.

Personal/Organizational Contacts

Some contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to provide or obtain explanation or additional information.

Customer Service Relationships

Requires moderate interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that customer requests or needs are met. Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Working conditions involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and require following basic safety precautions. Physical demands include moderate to heavy physical activity that includes prolonged standing and/or walking, handling moderate to heavy weight objects and/or using or carrying equipment. Work may require routine travel.
