Departmental Overview

Enterprise Data provides enterprise data warehouse services for the campus.

Responsibilities

EDW Personnel & Financial Management
  • Develops and recommends team goals for EDW based on in-depth knowledge of IT objectives and campus EDW goals.
  • Develops and maintains resource forecasts and capacity plans for all EDW projects with assistance from Project Manager and the Operations Managers. 
  • Manages the Development Team Manager, the Business Intelligence Manager, and the Data Integration Manager; oversees hiring of new employees, salary actions and performance management.
  • Manages the development team and EDW Operations Managers; oversees management.
  • Works effectively with the governance coordinating committee to schedule projects and deliver successful results.
  • Develops, manages and monitors forecasted expenses to budget.  
  • Accountable for adherence to budgets, schedules and work plans.

EDW Service Management
  • Collaborates with the EDW team and the campus to define, document and maintain the 5 year vision, technical roadmap, staffing and budget plan for the EDW.  
  • Presents to Senior Technical and Functional Management for approvals and markets to the campus.
  • Represents the EDW at governance meetings and project proposal meetings.  
  • Provides oversight of the project proposal process and the technical requirements to begin projects.  
  • Regularly interacts with senior campus management on matters impacting multiple functional/technical areas.
  • Ensures that industry best practices are defined and implemented.
  • Involved in developing, modifying and executing campus standards and procedures that affect immediate operation and have campus-wide impact.
  • Works with resources external to the campus on database architecture trends and operations management.
  • Accountable for the timeliness and quality of the EDW services and projects.

Vendor Relation Management
  • Manages contracts and relationships with software and hardware vendors.
  • Implements knowledge of policies when selecting and working with vendors.

Required Qualifications
  • Requires advanced knowledge of data architecture, ETL and BI systems and related areas of IT.  
  • Must have broad and deep knowledge of tools for data warehousing, ETL (Informatica) metadata management, business intelligence and reporting (Hyperion / OBIEE, and Tableau), analytics, data mining, integration and systems architecture.
  • Requires fluency in emerging cloud technologies that support advanced analytics and data science, e.g., data lakes, AI/machine learning, in order to lead, collaborate on and promote campus data strategies and technical roadmaps.
  • Requires advanced technical skills related to data warehouse systems functions.  
  • Requires knowledge of technical architecture, systems use, maintenance, and planning and integration strategies.
  • Requires 3-5 years in leadership/management in data warehousing / BI.  
  • In depth experience with data warehouse best practices, data analysis and modeling and data integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships to improve, enhance or launch new services and support across an institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with campus leadership, as well as other directors and managers in academic partner units.
  • Understands and values diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization and ability to work with a dynamic diverse faculty, staff and students.
  • Strong ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential situations with diplomacy and tact.
  • Strong leadership and strong verbal and written communication.  
  • Ability to clearly present complex data management/business information to various audiences.
  • Quantitative and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Service management (ITSM and ITIL) and product development.
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
