Job Summary
TheSchool of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at The University of SouthernMississippi is seeking applicants for the position of Visiting Instructor or VisitingAssistant Teaching Professor of Chemistry on the Gulf Park Campus to begin inAugust 2020. The successful candidate will provide instruction in freshman generaland sophomore organic chemistry classes and their co-requisite laboratories andsupervise laboratory teaching assistants. The successful candidate will beresponsible for teaching 12 semester credit hours each week; liaise with members ofthe Hattiesburg campus to develop, implement, revise, and evaluate curricula; assistwith student learning outcomes; and be compliant with laboratory safetyprotocols. There is no researchrequirement at the Instructor level, however, educational scholarly activity isencouraged but not necessary on the Assistant Teaching Professor track.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.Teach 12 semester credit hours of freshman general and sophomore organic Collect assessment data
2.Participate in appropriate committees and recruitment activities
3.Teach online classes as needed
4.Perform other duties as assigned
5.Chemistry courses and laboratories
6.Mentor teaching assistants in laboratories

Minimum Qualifications Candidatesmust hold a master’s degree in chemistry (for an appointment at the rank of VisitingInstructor), a doctoral degree in chemistry (for appointment at the rank of VisitingAssistant Teaching Professor), or a degree in a related field with at least 18graduate credit hours in chemistry. They should be able to teach face-to-face two-semestergeneral chemistry and organic chemistry sequences and their accompanying laboratories.Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

Preferred Qualifications Oneto two years college teaching experience is preferred, along with onlineteaching experience and administrating laboratories. Experience with theintegration of technology, such as Canvas, in the classroom and laboratories isalso preferred.
