Nature of Work: A full-time ProfessionalResearch Assistant (PRA) position is available in the area of pediatric heartfailure research. The PRA will have a key role in conducting a variety ofexperiments exploring the molecular changes present in children withcardiomyopathy and congenital heart disease. Laboratory techniques include, butare not limited to, RNA and protein extraction, cDNA synthesis, RT-qPCR,Western blotting, ELISA assays, maintaining primary cell culture, andperipheral blood mononuclear cell isolation. Various models of heart failure havebeen developed, including primary cardiomyocyte cell culture as well as rodentmodels. Experiments are also performed utilizing human samples (InstitutionalReview Board approved Pediatric Cardiac Tissue and Blood Bank).

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree in an appropriate scientific field (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, genetics or similar)
  • Two years of full-time molecular biology laboratory bench research experience
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Training in molecular techniques with a good theoretical understanding and experience in interpretation of results
  • Cell culture techniques, including maintaining primary cell cultures
  • Animal (rodent) work
  • Laboratory management skills
