Job Description Summary   

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Environmental Engineering Bachelor of Science degree program at Florida Polytechnic University and the Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPR) seek highly qualitied candidates with strong expertise in water, water systems, fate and transport of water pollutants in the environment, industrial process water management and cleanup, hydrology, and/or waste-water cleanup. This position is a joint appointment between Florida Polytechnic University and Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute. The candidate will serve as University faculty with teaching and research responsibilities, as well as serving as formal research duties at Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute. The appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The University appointment requires individuals to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a strong research program, conduct interdisciplinary research activities, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and provide service to the university and the profession. Faculty at Florida Polytechnic University are encouraged to build strong industry relations to further high impact applied research. The department is interested in candidates who are highly collaborative and collegial with a strong commitment to pursuing results-oriented research, student mentoring, and teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

The Institute appointment complements the University appointment with research activity that supports the FIPR mission. Individuals will be expected to also seek out grant opportunities related to the areas specified below. When possible, research activity should have a direct impact on industry operations to facilitate economic development in central Florida and beyond, both domestic and international.

The successful candidate will be expert in one or more of the areas of wastewater treatment, industrial process water management and cleanup, mitigation and remediation of impacted surface and groundwater (including agricultural practices), water chemistry, environmental microbiology, hydrology and hydraulics, environmental sensing and monitoring and sustainable practices.

Preference will be given to those with prior experience teaching undergraduate and graduate environmental engineering courses and laboratories, relevant industrial experience, and professional engineering licensure. A demonstrated research record as evidenced by publications and successful acquisition of extramural funding is also highly desired.
