A full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position is available in the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine Biobank in the Division of Biomedical Informatics & Personalized Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. The PRA will be involved in various laboratory procedures including analysis of clinical and research samples by molecular biology methods. This position will involve testing of human blood samples for genetic changes in a clinical laboratory environment.

 The PRA's duties will include a variety of laboratory functions, including but not limited to specimen management, DNA extraction, various molecular assays including microarray, data analysis, assay result interpretation, and proper maintenance and management of laboratory records. The PRA will also participate in quality control/quality assurance activities, as well as general lab duties such as reagent lot validation and inventory management. The PRA will also be assigned various laboratory maintenance projects. The laboratory operates in compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) standards and is inspected by CAP (College of American Pathologists). As such, the candidate should have knowledge of the requirements for working in a clinical laboratory environment, and any previous experience in a clinical laboratory, ISO certified laboratory or laboratory carrying other certifications is preferred. Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $35,600 to $60,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)

BA / BS degree or above, with a minimum of two years of molecular biology laboratory experience, and a solid theoretical understanding of molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid isolation and PCR techniques / genotyping.


Experience in meeting CLIA and CAP standards / requirements. Applicants with previous experience in a CLIA-certified setting, or with clinical laboratory credentials such as MB, ASCP are encouraged to apply.

Desired qualifications

Reliable, punctual, and motivated in their work. Attention to details, diligence in data recording/documentation, strict adherence to established assay protocols and laboratory policies/procedures, strong organizational skills.

Training in biochemistry, molecular biology, and / or genetics with a theoretical understanding and experience in interpretation of molecular assay results.

Previous biobank or high-throughput laboratory experience a plus.
