NCTN Program Manager

Job Profile Title

Manager Research Project B

Job Description Summary

The Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) of the University of Pennsylvania is a world leader in developing and conducting innovative clinical trials for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) is a collection of organizations and clinicians that coordinates and supports cancer clinical trials at more than 2,200 sites across the Unites States, Canada and internationally. The NCTN provides the infrastructure for NCI-funded treatment and primary advanced imaging trials to improve the lives of people with cancer. The ACC NCTN program provides support for departments and affiliates conducting NCTN trials within the ACC NCTN Network.

Job Description

The ACC NCTN Program Manager (PM) reviews proposals from ACC NCTN teams to activate new NCTN trials and discusses portfolio strategies with sub-unit leaders and the ECOG-ACRIN PI to ensure the ACC goals for the NCTN program are being met. The NCTN PM oversees NCI registration for NCTN investigators, facilitating registrations for new investigators and annual renewals. The PM creates Guidance Documents for the conduct of research under the ACC NCTN umbrella and ensures all investigators and staff understand the Guidance Documents via hands-on training, mentoring and providing operational support during all phases of trial activation, conduct and closing. This includes training on the conduct of cooperative group research vs. industry sponsored or investigator initiated trials. The PM interfaces and collaborates with affiliates to build a robust, high quality and compliant affiliate structure. The PM receives alerts, announcements and newsletters from NTCN sponsors and disseminates the information to ACC NCTN stakeholders and ensures compliance with communications. This includes reviewing data performance reports (outstanding data, queries, data expectedness) on a regular basis for all NCTN studies in the ACC and taking appropriate actions to ensure issues are addressed timely and completely. The NCTN PM oversees the monitoring and audit preparation and manages site audits performed by the NCI/Theradex and or the NCTN Lead Protocol Organizations (i.e. ECOG-ACRIN, NRG, etc.), working with study teams to ensure all issues identified during monitoring or audits are addressed in a timely manner to avoid future compliance issues, and uses the outcome of monitoring/auditing to evaluate the effectiveness of Guidance Documents and training, adjusting guidance as necessary to improve quality, compliance, efficiency and overall performance of all departments, divisions and institutions participating in ACC NCTN research. Additionally, the NCTN Program Manager will provide guidance to NCTN teams for all aspects of start-up including facilitating submissions to IRBs and ancillary review committees, tracking trends in ancillary review body feedback that impede trial activation, facilitating and attending study training for all new protocols and will provide education on the nuances of the NCTN funding structure. The NCTN Program Manager creates and maintains a centralized and harmonized infrastructure to support research across the various ACC departments, divisions and institutions involved in the conduct of NCTN research, working within the existing infrastructure of each unit. The NCTN Program Manager will be responsible for implementation of technology to facilitate performance reporting on the NCTN portfolio to the ECOG-ACRIN PI.
