Departmental Overview

The Office of Planning & Analysis (OPA) supports data-informed decision making to help UC Berkeley better fulfill its goals of access and excellence through teaching, research, and public service. We engage with and promote success within our campus community by producing analyses that are objective, actionable, and creative. Responsibilities

• Provides in-depth analysis and evaluation of variable factors to support report development that generates results to new questions, including those with little campus precedent or history to rely on as a means to check work.
• Synthesizes complex issues and presents them via dashboards and reports (e.g., OBIEE, Tableau) in a creative and non-technical manner.  
• Serve as one of the lead analysts who supports the development and maintenance of the Our Berkeley data digest, OPA's Tableau Server site, and other office systems. 
• Selects methods for new assignments and designs new techniques and procedures for obtaining solutions (for example, modeling or programming).
• Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) on student data and select HR/Payroll/Finance data (e.g., faculty FTE data, faculty salary data), engaging in collaborations with other IR analysts, in addition to analysts in Financial Planning & Analysis. 
• Contributes to the design, deployment and documentation of systems, structures, and tools in support of data visualization, information access, collection, retrieval, reporting, replicability, and quality.
• On a regular basis, produces and/or presents analyses directed to senior managers outside the immediate unit in order to persuade, influence, or negotiate methods and objectives for complex projects.
• Serves on departmental, campus-wide, or UC-wide committees as appropriate, and participates in activities that enhance the campus community and support the mission of our university. 

Required Qualifications

• Highly proficient in using statistical and productivity software such as R, Stata, the Microsoft Office suite, and Tableau to transform, clean, analyze, and manage data; report statistics; create tables, data visualizations, and presentations.
• Experience in business intelligence reporting tools and data visualization.    
• Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize, and generalize based on analysis of data. Keen attention to detail.
• Able to understand policy issues in higher education, particularly pertaining to undergraduate students at a selective public research university.
• Requires expert knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques.
• Detailed knowledge of and/or demonstrated ability to learn campus principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
• Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.
• Requires active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple deliverables successfully.
• Requires ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner, both in writing and verbally.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training preferred.
• Specialized training or expertise in statistical and/or data management software applications.  

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position.  Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $120,000.00 - $154,000.00.
