The UHealth Revenue Cycle Team has an amazing opportunity for an Executive Director, Health Information Management.

The Executive Director, Health System – Health Information Management (ED SHIM) provides leadership, resource management, and direction to the corporate HIM team and is responsible for policies, procedures, and the integrity of health information operations for all UHealth facilities and clinics ensuring adherence to University policies; state and national government regulations and laws; and accreditation standards. HIM operations include custodial responsibility for the storage, release, and confidentiality of the legal health record both paper and electronic formats. Data integrity responsibilities include patient identity, transcription, scanning, deficiency analysis, release of information including the patient portal, and clinical documentation improvement initiatives. Revenue cycle leadership includes responsibility for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services coding, CDI, coding quality for designated clinical departments as well as IC0-10 annual education and participation on standing and ad hoc revenue cycle committees.

The Executive Director is responsible for providing operational leadership regarding Epic, OnBase and other applications that directly or indirectly affect HIM applications and related revenue cycle applications. Chairman responsibilities include the UHealth Health Information Management Committee and the Coding Quality Committee. The Executive Director is a member of the Revenue Cycle Leadership Steering Committee, UMMG Clinical Practice Committee, the Privacy and Security Committee, UMMG Leadership forum as well as a number of ad hoc committees responsible for implementing UHealth strategy and information governance. Key responsibilities of this role include identifying, gathering stakeholder input, and preparing cost benefit analyses to support revenue cycle and documentation improvement applications within and outside the current Epic application including but not limited to computer assisted coding, pre-billing claim review software, speech recognition and clinical documentation software. This role is both a team leader and participant and must engage with multiple departments, business units, and stakeholders to achieve system-wide results, to include the Privacy, Compliance and Billing Office, General Council, IT, Purchasing, Central Business Office, Patient Access, UMMG administrators and chairs, hospital and finance leadership, and Human Resources. The Executive Director models the UM culture of belonging and the values of diversity, integrity, responsibility, excellence, compassion, creativity, and teamwork.

The minimum requirements are a Bachelor's degree and minimum ten years of relevant experience. A Master's degree and appropriate credentials e.g. RHIA, RHIT, FACHE, CPA

preferred. Ten years of management experience including consolidation of health information management, coding, or other healthcare functions and managing remote personnel. Experience in the management of large projects. Healthcare experience required: Hospital inpatient, ambulatory care delivery system, physician practice plan in a senior level role including budgetary responsibility

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with all level of personnel, including peers, physicians, staff, senior leadership
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with IT and implementing and/or optimizing an EHR preferably Epic.
  • A strong understanding of revenue cycle in the hospital and professional environment.
  • Experience as a committee/project chairman as well as team member.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
