This P/T position is responsible for providing law enforcement and security services for the Gilmer Campus between the hours of 1:30-6:30pm, Monday – Wednesday &1:30-6pm, Thursdays (with some flexibility).

Essential Duties

MAJOR DUTIES
Maintains responsibility for security and safety of persons and property (60%)
• Walks through building to detect and deter criminal activity.
• May provide traffic direction and escorts as needed.
• Assists motorists as needed.
• Provides first aid and CPR to victims as necessary.
• Apprehends, arrests, and processes offenders.

Provides security and maintenance of campus buildings (20%)
• Work with site Administrator to secure all building as required.
• Performs monthly checks of the campus AED, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.

Assists with investigations and maintains required documentation (15%)
• Completes all required reports and forms, including accident and incident forms and student injury reports.
• Provides assistance and backup support to site Administrator.
• Collects, processes, and submits evidence and property.
• Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations.
• Prepares for and testifies in judicial proceedings.

Performs related duties (5%)

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
• Knowledge of Georgia Criminal and Traffic law manual.
• Knowledge of public safety policies and procedures.
• Skill in utilizing a variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information.
• Skill in exercising judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information.
• Skill in operating a computer, firearm, and other public safety equipment.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines include local, state, and federal laws, Georgia Criminal and Traffic Law Manual, Official Code of Georgia Annotated, U.S. Code Title 42, Dalton State College Public Safety Policy and Procedure Manual, Georgia Board of Regents Policy and Procedure Manual, and Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council Rules and Regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. Must obtain or possess a Georgia Peace Officer Certification and maintain the certification.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
• The work consists of related public safety duties. The unpredictability of emergency situations and inclement weather contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to protect the community and prevent crime. Successful performance helps ensure a safe environment for the community.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• More than two years of related experience preferred.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
• Have a valid driver’s license 21 YOA
• Good moral character, good under stressful conditions, good decision making ability.
• Satisfactory results from a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and credit check, others.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an officer on a college campus.
• Georgia POST certified officer
• Associates Degree
• Past experience as a Georgia Peace Officer

Physical Demands

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table and intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, running, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell.
• The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, a very noisy place, outdoors, and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
