The Department:

The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks motivated applicants for the position of Professional Research Assistant 2 (PRA2). This role will engage patients, families, and clinical staff at the University of Colorado Hospital, manage study start-up and documentation for clinical trials, and collaborate with clinical and research teams across the country working to improve care of critically ill and injured patients. The projects focus on patients in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units with major trauma (including traumatic brain injury and burn patients), sepsis, and acute respiratory failure. The ideal candidate will have experience communicating medical concepts and procedures to people of all healthcare knowledge levels, collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams, and be highly detail-oriented.

 Nature of WORK:

The Professional Research Assistant 2 (PRA2) is responsible for routine research activities in support of clinical studies.  This position requires familiarity and experience with clinical or laboratory research.  This full-time position may be part of a central pool of research assistants or work specifically with a single Principal Investigator (PI).

 

This position will work independently under the supervision of a PI, Research Associate, or Senior PRA to conduct clinical research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The job locations will include the Emergency Department and inpatient units at the University of Colorado Hospital and office buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

 

The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Interact directly with study participants to collect data via patient visit/discussion, medical record review, surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups. 
  • Manage straightforward research activities that are part of larger project from initiation to close (e.g. primary data collection activities – participant visits, data abstraction, survey, interviews, focus group).
  • Submit already completed IRB applications or continuing review reports.
  • Create data management and tracking tools (REDCap, ACCESS, Excel) to support data collection and tracking of project/recruitment activities.
  • Carry out straightforward data analysis.
  • Participate in and contribute to group meetings.
  • Basic financial processing of routine lab or study associated purchases.
  • Interview study participants, extract relevant data from participant or medical records and enter it into on line centralized databases or local data tools.
  • Co-moderate qualitative research focus groups.
  • Assist in assembly of manuscripts for submission.  Check or add references.
  • Identify, screen, and meet with potential study participants to explain research studies and obtain informed consent.

    Supervision Received:

    Under the direction of the SrPRA or Research Associate, the PRA will be assigned various research duties and will report to the relevant Principal Investigator (PI). 

     Supervision Exercised:

    The position may supervise student workers for specific tasks.

  • Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $36,500 to $65,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience plus 2 years relevant experience OR a relevant Master’s degree.  Highly relevant experience may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis. 
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in research-related disciplineMedical background (e.g., EMT/Paramedic, nursing, medical assistant, medical technician)Experience with and understanding of medical terminologyAt least 2 years experience in clinical research
