Part-time Faculty

Job Details

Foundry College, a new type of two-year college, seeks part-time faculty to teach various online courses leading to an Associate Degree in Business Management. Courses may include any of the following: Critical Analyses, Clear Communication, Practical Problem Solving, Working with Others, Managing Yourself at Work, and Learning at Work.

This innovative new online college is designed to educate students to fill in-demand jobs by teaching skills and knowledge that employers seek and are unlikely to be automated in the foreseeable future. Classes are live, face-to-face and synchronous, held on a proprietary learning platform custom built to facilitate active learning and improve information transfer.

Applicants should be passionate about education and innovations in teaching. Applicants should have expertise in a relevant field, experience teaching, excellent communication skills, be open to new ways of teaching, and be flexible and adaptable as the curriculum and pedagogy continue to evolve. Applicants should also be comfortable with technology and troubleshooting in an online environment.

The specific responsibilities are as follows:

I.  Faculty training

  • Successfully complete the one-week faculty training course (via videoconferencing).
  • Observe multiple classes on the learning platform
  • Teach several short, sample classes on the learning platform

II.  Teaching

  • Teach assigned courses, holding them twice a week at the allotted time for 15 weeks per trimester. Each class is 90 minutes long, with a mixture of lecture and active learning. Classes are held in the afternoons and evenings.
  • Manage the online classroom and students during class.
  • Teach from previously prepared lesson plans. These lesson plans specify the:
    • Learning outcomes
    • Information to be learned (the lectures/videos or sets of mini-lectures and short videos)
    • Active learning exercises
    • Quizzes
  • Meet weekly with the faculty team for each course to review the previous week and plan for coming sessions.
  • Hold office hours every week (2 hours), allowing students to ask questions about the course.
  • Function as a “substitute teacher” occasionally when another faculty member is sick or has an emergency.
  • Make suggestions for lesson plan revisions based on in-class experience and student performance

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field, including:
    • Psychology (cognitive, organizational, social)
    • Philosophy (analytical)
    • Organizational Behavior
    • Business (DBA)
  • At least two years teaching experience.
  • Open to new ideas; adaptable.
  • Highly organized and responsible.
  • High energy and entrepreneurial spirit.

Preferred:

  • Resides in Pacific Time zone.
  • Experience teaching in a live, synchronous online classroom.
  • Experience with G Suite applications.

Foundry College is a new type of online two-year college that teaches working adults skills and knowledge that are in demand by employers and unlikely to be automated in the foreseeable future. The curriculum integrates practical training with a broad education so students can adapt as the labor market changes. Every class combines live, instructor-led lectures with small group active learning sessions to ensure that new knowledge is effectively integrated, retained, and can be put into immediate practice. Kosslyn, Foundry College launched in 2018 and is headquartered in San Francisco.
