To oversee and prepare the Innovative Manufacturing Prototype Acceleration Central Texas (IMPACT) lab and associated programs at Austin Community College. This position is a grant-funded, full-time position for the remainder of the grant term. Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the day-to-day activities and services of the Manufacturing Incubator including, but not limited to, management of lab equipment, tenant companies, and related personnel/student lab activities. Serves as the management liaison for the Manufacturing Incubator partners.
  • Manages the execution of partner company contracts including providing research support, determining equipment needs, and supervising faculty and students involved with those projects. Works with the department chair and ATI to plan contract research agreements.
  • Monitors the Manufacturing Incubator lab to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Promotes safe lab practices among tenant companies, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Represents the Manufacturing Incubator at community events in the startup and manufacturing communities. Promotes and markets the Incubator to build collaborations in the community and recruit companies to Austin. Participates in the screening and selection of new companies applying to the Manufacturing Incubator.
  • Coordinates networking events, hands-on workshops, informal discussions and other activities designed to promote the Incubator.
  • Initiates purchase requisitions and monitors expenditures for the Manufacturing Incubator. Maintains an inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new equipment and lab services; may prepare cost estimates for budget recommendation and/or submit justifications and request for capital outlay items in coordination with other ACC program stakeholders.
  • Oversees the installation, configuration and/or calibration of new equipment. Develops preventative maintenance schedule program for all applicable equipment. Performs routine maintenance and repairs as needed on applicable equipment. Oversees the arrangement of repair or maintenance services as required.
  • Develops processes and procedures for the safety and use of the Manufacturing Incubator. Provides training to students, faculty or other personnel in the safe and proper use of the equipment and lab facilities.

    Ability to maintain an established schedule which may include some evenings and weekends. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a strong customer-orientation when working with diverse students, faculty, administration, community, and business leaders. Effective planning, organizing, communication, and interpersonal skills including use of tact and discretion and the ability to meet deadlines. Competency in understanding and following instructions precisely, working with lab equipment, and safely working with lab materials. Adeptness to interact effectively with others of diverse backgrounds. Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Technology Skills

    Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software. Use related laboratory equipment and software applications.Required Work Experience

  • Two years related work experience.
  • Preferred Work Experience

    Over 5 years Experience with CAM software for creating CNC toolpaths (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Meshcam) and parametric 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or Creo).
    Experience with multi-axis machining (3+2 axis, 4 axis, 5 axis) Experience with operation, setup, and maintenance of CNC mills and lathes, CNC routers, 3D printers, manual mills and lathes, laser cutters and metrological equipment Experience with rapid prototyping processes ranging from ideation and design to creation of working prototypesRequired Education

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred Education

    Master's degree in related discipline.Special RequirementsLicenses/Certifications; Other

    A valid Texas driver's license with dependable means for transportation to and from meeting locations across the district.Other Preferred Qualifications

    Meet ACC faculty qualifications table requirements (degree and work history) for teaching in Manufacturing and/or Architecture and Engineering Computer Aided Design departments.Physical Requirements

    Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and occasionally stooping, crawling, and climbing. Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Able to read chemical labels and instructions as well as use lab equipment; able to survey assigned lab spaces for safety issues.Safety

  • ACC Benefits OverviewFull-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment.     ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by Federal law.
