Job Description

The Division of Applied Social Sciences seeks applications and nominations for a tenured appointment at the level of either associate or full professor to support its research and extension program related to alternative organizational forms in the emphasis area of organizational economics, specifically cooperatives. Detailed areas of research to be conducted include corporate governance, management, finance, value chain coordination, farmer-owner needs and the interaction of these areas with cooperative performance and public policy implications.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage with cooperatives, such as Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership and Missouri Institute of Cooperatives. The Division already has two faculty members supporting research, teaching, and outreach related to cooperatives. This position adds to the Division’s capacity to serve agricultural cooperatives. Industry has been instrumental in supporting the University of Missouri’s Cooperative program efforts. Cooperative industry partners have provided funding to support the start-up of this new position.

Primary responsibilities of the position include:

• conducting research that successfully leads to outputs in appropriate journals, proceedings, and conference presentations;
• using this research to inform the delivery of knowledge through executive education programs;
• engaging with farmer-owners of cooperatives;
• participating in public, professional, and internal service activities;
• provide guidance and advisement to graduate student research;
• collaborate within an interdisciplinary environment;
• link scholarship work with extension and engagement efforts that extend past the University campus to national leaders, policy makers and opinion leaders.

This is a nine-month appointment with a distribution effort of 60% research, 30% extension and 10% service.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A PhD (or equivalent) in agricultural or applied economics, economics, business administration, law or a related social sciences discipline at the time of the application.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

• a history with a strong background in cooperative leadership or alternative organizational forms;
• a level of grantsmanship that is reflects high productivity to the applicant’s career stage;
• executive educational experience;
• the ability to lead an academic environment;
• a strong record of impactful peer reviewed publications;
• worked in a cooperative or producer-owned firm;
• experience with engaging an extension audience.
