Our College faculty have established groundbreaking interdisciplinary centers and institutes: The Nonwovens Institute and the Textile Protection and Comfort Center. They have led the formation of the emerging Forensic Sciences Institute. The Zeis Textiles Extension department is meeting a high-demand for professional training and fabrication and testing services by offering programs for entrepreneurs and start-up companies as well as multinational corporations.

The Wilson College of Textiles offers unparalleled hands-on, science-based textile education through two departments, Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management and Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science. Students receive one-on-one mentoring from award-winning faculty and conduct both undergraduate and graduate research in more than 200,000 square feet of state-of-the-art teaching, research, manufacturing and collaborative spaces. Students gain valuable work experience through summer internships, embark on international experiences across 30 countries and six continents, and leverage academic and experiential real world learning experiences via our industry partnerships and a 9,000-person strong alumni network.

Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management:
NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, and the Department of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management, prepares future leaders for the textile, apparel, home, furniture, fashion and retail industries.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, our undergraduate and graduate programs incorporate global marketplace dynamics with a strategic management focus. Our graduates incorporate art/design and science/technology with management concepts in creative problem-solving. Our program is equipped with access and experiences utilizing the latest industry technologies. The majority of the students have an enriching and intensive study abroad experience. Our program faculty works closely with industry partners, including the department’s Industry Advisory Board, to develop academic and experiential real-world learning experiences. Student internships combined with a global alumni network provide an exceptional value-added experience, with our students prepared to make an immediate impact in diverse companies throughout the global supply chain.

Career paths of our graduates are in the areas of brand marketing, merchandising, retail, sourcing, private brand development, analyst, design, product development, and public relations and communications.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Fashion Design and Product Development.

Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and promoting student learning in the design of fashion and textile products.

The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated experience and competence in pattern making, apparel construction, computerized patternmaking, CAD, 3D visualization.

Skilled knowledge of product data management, portfolio evaluation and presentation is highly valued.
Must be able to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, laboratory and studio equipment, and staff.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be proficient in computer-aided-design, creative and entrepreneurial thinking, and the use of design technologies and textile materials to creatively build prototypical products that meet the needs of consumers and customers worldwide.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in quantitative/qualitative research methods that advance knowledge in the field, build a record of successful grant writing, and be capable of collaborating with industry partners on projects and research.

Minimum Experience and Education

PhD, MFA or terminal degree in the discipline from a recognized university or equivalent terminal academic qualifications.

Faculty rank may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending upon qualifications and experience.

In some cases based upon an individual’s qualifications the rank of Instructor may be considered.
