QualificationsNature of Work:The Section of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism,Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Colorado at Denver is recruitinga full-time PhD and/or MD molecular genetics director for the PrecisionDiagnostics Laboratory (PDL) at the Children's Hospital Colorado.  The candidate should be ABMGG board-certifiedor board-eligible in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics or LaboratoryGenetics and Genomics. This position is primarily aimed at supporting theclinical activities of the lab, as related to constitutional testing, throughleadership, quality, interpretation and reporting, development of clinicalinterpretation workflows, and clinical support for assay development.  
Examples of Work Performed:• Collaborate with PDL and Department ofPathology and Laboratory Medicine medical directors and departmentalleadership, PDL scientific director, section manager, and technical staff asappropriate for optimal operations in the context of the entire laboratory andthe hospital as a whole. Represent clinical interests in discussions regardingstaffing, financial planning, quality, strategy, etc.• Provide clinical expertise in interpretation of molecular genetics laboratorytest results as appropriate, including signing out interpretative reports.• Provide direction and insight regarding clinical needs related to appropriatelaboratory testing for diagnosis and patient management.  • Serve as a clinical consultant during the validation of new assays, with afocus on ensuring the assay serves the anticipated clinical needs, developmentof assay content, and developing interpretation workflows and procedures.  • Depending on interest and experience, may take on more technical andscientific roles in assay development and validations under the guidance of thePDL scientific director. • Support laboratory quality through participation in investigations of qualityissues and review of laboratory section procedures, assay verifications andvalidations, and proficiency testing results.• Assess the need for implementation of new assays or for retiring establishedassays based on clinical need, test volume, or improved technology.  Recommend improvements in the laboratorysection's current assays, possible new assay offerings, and equipment needs.• Participate in the ongoing education of medical technologists, trainees of alltypes, and colleagues in their specific discipline. The laboratory is an activecomponent of the ABMGG Laboratory Genetics and Genomics program and theMolecular Genetic Pathology fellowship, and the director will be expected to beactive in those training programs.• Although this is primarily a clinical position, opportunities forcollaborative research abound, and moderate dedicated research time for fundedinvestigators is available (and encouraged).  
Minimum Qualifications:• MD or PhD with ABMGG certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics • 5 years of clinical molecular lab experience
Conditions of Employments:• Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug testthrough Children's Hospital Colorado• Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offenderbackground check
Preferred Qualifications:• Previous experience with EPIC• Previous experience in directorship of medical laboratory• 7 years of clinical molecular lab experience
Competencies:• Experience with interpretation and resultsreporting for large NGS panels, ideally whole exome sequencing.• Broad knowledge of genetic variant databases and their utility.• Understanding of interpretation and reporting workflows.• Basic knowledge of NGS wet-bench techniques, data quality, and bioinformaticstools.• Understanding of laboratory quality measures and familiarity with CAP and CLIAregulations.• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with clinical, scientific,and operational teams.• Desire to participate in the expansion of a clinical molecular geneticsservice.
