Communications Specialist

DescriptionEmployee Services (ES) is located at the Office of the President in uptown Denver. The Employee Services department provides the University of Colorado (CU) community with services from recruitment to retirement. The department provides functional and technical expertise in the areas of payroll, technologies, benefits, retirement, financial education, learning and development, international tax, and human resources. Employee Services provides a holistic approach that strives to create a workforce that is stronger, healthier and more secure.


The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating audience-appropriate content that promotes our services and programs to the university’s employees, prospective candidates, retirees, and students.  The position is responsible for creating compelling marketing and editorial content for websites, emails, marketing campaigns, internal CU employee publications, print collateral, social media and other outlets. The Communications Specialist requires creativity, versatility, and a passion for finding new, engaging ways to tell a story or explain the value of a service.

 Duties:
  • Conducts interviews with CU faculty and staff as well as campus and external business partners on topics ranging from the perks of working at CU to service and product offerings to events.
  • Composes and edits articles and marketing copy for CU employee publications and newsletters, social media, emails, blog posts, posters, fliers and video scripts.
  • Distributes communications materials via the CU website, employee intranet, blogs, social media, calendars, and databases to highlight ES offerings and enhance the ES brand.
  • Collaborates on website content strategies with internal subject matter experts, as well as develops, tracks, and maintains content for the CU Employee Services, HCM Community, and CU Careers websites.
  • Creates emails and event registration pages as requested and provides registrant information as needed.
  • Prepares materials for outreach events, workshops and meetings.
  • Executes special tasks/projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Creative thinking skills that result in the formulation of out-of-the box ideas
  • Ability to deliver effective messages to constituents
  • Working knowledge of social media outlets, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
  • Ability to utilize email marketing tools, such as SalesForce Marketing Cloud, and creative design tools such as  the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Ability to generate story ideas for department newsletters and publications
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
 

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (education requirement may be substituted on a year-for-year basis)Two (2) years of professional experience in drafting professional organizational communications.Two (2) years of experience using website content management systems, especially Drupal.One (1) year of experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Preferred QualificationsExperience with social media and web content management systems, especially DrupalExperience with email marketing tools, such as SalesForce Marketing CloudExperience using the Adobe Premiere Pro and After EffectsWho we are:SystemAdministration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located inthe uptown neighborhood of Denver with an office in Broomfield and a fewsmaller offices located on the campuses. Salary:The salary has been established at $56,000.
