The College of Education and P-16 Integration Department of Teaching and Learning is accepting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Innovation in Education with a research agenda in the use of innovations in education or instructional technology in teaching and learning. The Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education and P-16 Integration at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year (9-month) position as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Innovations in Education, beginning August 17, 2020.

The successful candidate will teach, supervise and advise undergraduate and graduate students, conduct scholarly research, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching in the undergraduate Educator Preparation Program and graduate programs using innovations in instructional technology.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions. UTRGV is a high research activity (R2) comprehensive academic institution with distributed campuses in the Rio Grande Valley and academic offerings from the undergraduate to the doctoral levels. It is one of the largest Hispanic-Serving Institutions in the USA.

The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers undergraduate teacher preparation, master’s programs in Bilingual Education, Reading and Literacy, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, School Psychology, and Counseling. We also offer an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with several specializations including educational technology, higher education, science education, math education, bilingual education, and curriculum generalist. We also have an Ed.D. in Education Leadership. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The college is currently pursuing national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction was recently ranked 8th in the nation of “Best Online Ed.D. & Ph.D. Programs in Education” by Gradsource. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Innovation in Education will facilitate integration of 21st Century instructional technology, digital learning tools, and educational innovations in teaching and research (may include, but not limited to research and operational activities of the Mixed Reality Simulation lab in the College of Education and P-16 Integration). S/he will work collaboratively to expand, refine, and promote integration of 21st Century instructional technology innovations in education in undergraduate and graduate classes in the college, other UTRGV units, and beyond UTRGV. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Innovation in Education will be expected to pursue and obtain external funding to support innovations in education that integrate 21st Century instructional technologies in teaching, research, and service.

Minimum Qualifications

•Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Curriculum and Instruction or other closely related field.
•Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching, community engagement, and scholarly research and publication in the area of innovations in education.
•Demonstrated potential for working with culturally and linguistically diverse students in a Minority Serving Institution (MSI). [e.g. Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Tribal Colleges].
•Demonstrated potential for working with culturally and linguistically diverse faculty on collaborative research and scholarly projects integrating innovations in 21st Century instructional technology.
•Experience using a range of 21st Century teaching and digital learning technologies.
•Demonstrated potential to secure or have a record of securing external funding.
•Experience in the use and research of Mixed Reality Simulations and other innovations in education.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Qualified to teach in undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience teaching in an CAEP accredited Educator Preparation Program.
•Experience with or demonstrated potential for innovations in teaching in online and blended learning environments.
•Experience with or demonstrated potential for negotiating and establishing partnership agreements with K-12 schools, community-based experiential learning collaborations, and formal collaborations between institutions of higher education and other entities to conduct research and develop initiatives.
•Experience with research in and use of instructional technology innovations in education (e.g., Mixed Reality Simulations, Virtual/Augmented Reality, Instructional Technology/Blended Learning models/digital learning, iPad/tablet integration in instruction, Google instructional tools, and/or others).
•Experience with or demonstrated potential for mentoring students in research and publication.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

      The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

       

      Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

       

      UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

      The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991.
