Departmental Overview

The Bay Area Social Services Consortium (BASSC), located in the School of Social Welfare, is an agency-university-foundation partnership founded in 1987 that promotes social service research, training, and policy development to strengthen public sector social services in the San Francisco Bay Area. The BASSC Research Response Team responds to the needs of public sector social service agencies for evidence to inform services and build organizational capacity, conducting structured literature reviews and research projects through close collaboration with agency administrators and line staff.

Responsibilities

Develops and Implements Event Budgets: 
  • Prepares summary budget analysis with actual costs, observations and recommendations for the future. 
  • Develops and implements dissemination budgets.
  • Prepares summary budget analysis with actual costs, observations and recommendations for the future.
  • Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports and/or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues and commenting on other significance for internal department constituents. 
  • Prepares, edits and modifies documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations and proposals. 

Website:
  • Maintains BASSC website
  • Maintains website functionality, including platform updates
  • Maintains publication archiving and access on website

Dissemination:
  • Works with BASSC Director and Research Director to develop social media strategies for dissemination of BASSC research.
  • Works with BASSC Director, Research Director, and BASSC agency staff to develop online/e-learning methods for dissemination of BASSC research.

General Administrative/Analytical:
  • Supports BASSC director in preparing and submitting documentation related to contracts with research consultants.
  • Supports BASSC director in stakeholder communications
  • Assists with development of stakeholder materials - briefs, reports, working papers 
  • Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions, meetings of high level management and external constituents. 
  • On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, programs and issues. 
  • Provides a variety of analytical duties in support of a function, program and/or organizational unit. 
  • Participates in administrative policy and program planning and development. 

Event Planning:
  • Develops event/meeting briefing, electronic systems to monitor each event and maintain a hard copy file for each. 
  • Initiates, edits and oversees event timelines in conjunction with BASSC leadership. 
  • Shares information with appropriate parties and distribute new information as necessary. 

Develops and Coordinates Guest Lists: 
  • Creates initial guest list. 
  • Based on parameters of the event and maintains/edits throughout planning process.
  • Sends all invitations (electronic or hard copy).
  • Monitors RSVP's and make adjustments to guest list as necessary.
  • Plans, organizes, and identifies real and potential event locations and vendors.
  • Searches for meeting venues and negotiates hotel meeting costs.
  • Secures room arrangements. 
  • Recommends menu and ascertains pricing. 
  • Handles contract details with appropriate campus dept. as necessary. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs or ability to quickly learn.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrated political acumen, including skill in effectively representing the campus to the public.
  • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas, including skill to determine the issues/problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and/or management. 
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills, including the ability to effectively work with diverse populations, take direction from multiple supervisors and faculty, and collaborate with colleagues, subordinates and outside vendors. 
  • Excellent organizational skills required to successfully organize all aspects of an event, including budgets, detailed logistics, purchasing supplies and materials, and managing vendor contracts. 
  • Excellent project management and multi-tasking skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to consult supervisors on a regular basis as well as work independently.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and provide follow-through on assignments. 
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and Google applications. 
  • Experience with social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, ResearchGate
  • Experience with or demonstrated ability to learn the Open Berkeley website platform
  • Ability to travel locally.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range $28.74 - $33.53.
