The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for two Research Associate positions to assist in experimental mechanics and advanced materials in Professor Xiaodong (Chris) Li's lab.
The research associates are expected to perform materials synthesis, coating and composite testing, microstructural and mechanical characterization, and finite element analysis, write reports and technical papers.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field is required by the start date of the position. The successful candidate shall have a background in materials synthesis, coating and composite testing, microstructural and mechanical characterization, and finite element analysis. Experience with materials synthesis and characterization, experimental mechanics, and mechanical characterization techniques, including but not limited to digital image correlation, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, X-ray computed tomography as well as mechanical testing techniques, including but not limited to tension/compression testing and indentation is required. Good written and oral communication skills is required.
