About the Department:Dairy Records Management Systems (DRMS) provides cow and herd management information and software to dairy farmers located in 44 states and Puerto Rico. Dairy farmers are members of Dairy Herd Improvement Associations (DHIAs). DRMS aggregates and edits data keyed into its software by dairy farmers and DHIA technicians at any of the 10,000+ dairy farms. It merges on-farm data with results of lab analyses for milk samples collected from each cow and produces management information. DRMS develops all of its own software that is used for data collection, lab management, data merging, record computation, report generation, print center management and data backup. DRMS develops software for web, desktop and mobile devices. Software also interfaces with various technologies that collect on-animal sensor outputs.
Essential Job Duties:The Assistant Director – Software Development provides independent leadership for the software development process at Dairy Records Management Systems (DRMS) to include design, development and maintenance of software systems for dairy farmers, field technicians, industry and dairy farmer cooperatives. This position will work closely with management and stakeholders to review requests, requirements, and expectations. Coordinating delivery of effective solutions is also required of this position. Responsibilities also include hiring and managing teams for software development, quality assurance/releases and hosting system operations.
As the Assistant Director, this position will advise the Director in budget elements relating to software development and operations processes, and advise DRMS Outreach Team on effective marketing and education of DRMS software.
Other Responsibilities:Manage the software development process for enhancements to existing systems and development of new systems
Ensure on-going educational efforts of staff
Direct use of sound dairy science principles in applications software
Assign tasks
Evaluate team productivity
Coordinate efforts of managers of quality assurance and operations
Coordinate collaboration with dairy industry in development of highly useful dairy herd management software and dairy information analysis systems
Minimum Experience and Education:Ph.D. in Dairy/Animal Science; or a D.V.M. (or related degree in Veterinary Medicine); or Master’s degree in a closely related field with at least two years of relevant experience.
Other Required Qualifications:Demonstrated capability for software development and experience managing software development processes.
On-farm dairy experience.
Demonstrated productivity and excellence in previous position(s).
Effective communication with dairy producers and dairy industry professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:Candidates with at least five (5) years of experience using records analysis systems for dairy herds are encouraged to apply.
